GI Farm Training
The Veterans Adm’nUtratlcn
has broadened requirements
that veterans’s farms must meet
for institutional on-farm train¬
ing under the GI Bill, the VA
has announced.
Under a new ruling, eligibility
requirements for farm training
^ ^ expanded t3 include
feedi breeding and m an-
aging of lives’ock, as well „, o1 , as
poultry and other specialized
farming commonly followed in
thi area, according to Vaux
Owen, VA’s Georgia Regional
Manager.
For the past few months, he
only veterans admitted to the
“learn-while-you-farm’! train¬
ing program were these whose
farms included tilling of the soil
as a basic activity. These vete¬
rans, of course, continue to be
eligible for the training.
Also, a veteran may enroll in
the GI Bill program if his farm
includes a combination of bo h
types of activities.

tutional on-farm training, VA
emphasized.
The farm or other agricultural
establishment must be of a size
and character which, together
with the group instruction part
of his course, <li occupies the
veteran’s full time; (21 allows
for r instruction L _______ in all aspects of
farm management cf the type

such a nature that if the vet
eran plans to continue operat¬
ing it after he completes his
corns?, it will assure him a sa¬
tisfactory income under normal
conditions.
Within the meaning of the
law, Mr. Owen said, insti.u-
tional-on-farm training does
not apply to veterans in estab-
lishments engaged primarily in

sale of agricultural produc.s.
Examples cf such establish¬
ments are dairy processing
plants, grain elevators, packing
plants, hatcheries, stock yards,

Establishments of this nature
desiring to train veterans may
qualify under the on-the-job
training provisions of the GI
Bill, VA said.
