“Magic” Garden Hoe
Plus Four Lawmen
Wreck Three Stills
Trenton Marshall J. H. Baty,
with the help of three state Al¬
cohol Tax Unit men and what he
called a,- "magic hoe” raided
and completely destroyed three
moonshine plants on Sand
Mountain Tuesday.
Baty said he and the ATU men
found a still hidden In the woods
near the Cole City Road about
eight miles West of Trenton
and nearby lay an old rusty hoe.
Having no axes nor other tools
to work on the still with, the
men went to work with the tool
and completely wrecked the
equipment.
Later in the afternoon the
men, still carrying their hoe, ran
into two other stills which were
working and these too fell be¬
fore the mighty swings of the
handy agricultural tool.
Baty seid the first still was
not in use, but the other two
had a total of about 500 gallons
of mash working.
The state men and the Tren¬
ton Marshall found no one
working at any of the sites, but
Baty said he figured the last two
stills have been in operation for
some time
Having no more use for his
still-bursting hoe, Baty said he
may present the implement to
the Trenton Garden Club in the
hope that It will do them as
much good as it did the lawmen.
