Ernest Bean Captured
After Three-car Crash
Near New England
Ernest Bean, part-time Tren¬
ton resident, who has been out
of a federal jail on probation,
was caught around midnight
last Thursday by Dade Sheriff
Bill Lynch after Bean was in¬
volved in a three-car smash-up
that landed Iwo people in the
hospital.
j Lynch said Bean was driving
an auto which he had stolen in
Summerville.
Summerville police later took
Bean back there to face charges
on the stolen car count, the
sheriff said.
Bean smashed into a car
driven by Ralph Johns, of Tren¬
ton and then hit an Alabama
auto sending Its two passengers
to the hospital. The Alabama
car was completely demolished,
the sheriff reported.
Bean was treated for cuts
about the face and head and re¬
turned to the jail, Lynch said.

Coast Guard Commissions
Offered by Academy
Lanham Announces
Congressman Henderson Lan¬
ham announced today that the
nationwide competitive exami¬
nation for entrance to the U. S.
Coast Guard Academy, New
| London, Connecticut, will be
held on February 19-20, 1951.
The number of candidates se¬
lected each year depends upon
the needs of the Service and,
therefore, a candidate to gain
admittance to the Academy
must not only pass the exami¬
nation but must pass high en¬
ough so as to be assured of se¬
lection for appointment.
“Graduates of the Coast
Guard Academy 4-year course,’’
he said, “receive a commission
as ensign in the United States
Coast Guard and a Bachelor of
Science degree in Eenginering.”
Congressman Lanham point¬
ed ou: that “there is no limit on
the number of candidates that
'come from any single area. I
urge all interested young men to
| write to Coast Guard Head¬
quarters as soon as possible,
'since the necessary papers must
be completed by January 15,
1951
