PULLEN BUYS HEIFER AT SHORTHORN SALE Bill Pullen attended the Na¬ tional Polled Shorthorn Con¬ gress Sale at Montgomery, Ala , on March 24-25, bringing back a bred heifer he pur¬ chased there. The heifer, Glatwyn Ginny, is bred to a prize bull from Greencastle, Indiana. Fifteen states and three foreign coun- trise were represented at the sale. mmi iiiuis yrcm the County PMA Committal NATION FACES SERIOUS FEED SITUATION The goal for corn plantings in 1952 calls for 106 acres for every 100 acres planted in 1951. According to Mr E. J. Bible, chairman of the Dade County Agricultural Mobilization Com mittee, this represents such a small acreage increase per farm that there should be lit¬ tle difficulty for Georgia farm¬ er sto mee t the goal. The intentions to plant re¬ port just issued by the U S. Department of Agriculture In¬ dicates that Georgia farmers in their pre-planting season plans will seed 3,190,000 acres to corn. The goal for Georgia is 3.400..000 jicres. This means that Georgia farmers will have to increase their March 1 stim- ated planting by 7 percent- 107 acres for each 100 acres in¬ tended. According to Chairman Bi¬ ble, if our farmers do not plant the desired acreage, there is real danger of a very tight feed situation in from 12 to 18 mnoths. Unless yields are far above average it may mean that some livstock will have to be liquidated which would re¬ sult in a very serious situation for the United States and for j nations associated with the U. S in defense efforts. The Chairman has some suggestions for the individual farmer who is up against the quqestino of where the extra acres are to come from. In many areas it may be well to plant the needed corn acreage rather than some other crop that produces fewer feed units per acre. It may come out of our producing pasture land or land that is now idle. Here in Dade County many farmers may find it best to plant fewer acres of lesedeza on good land to get the desired acreage of corn. We are at a cross roads not unlike the situation that exist- ed in World War II. Then the comparatively large feed re- serves dwindled almost over- night and before we knew it we were in a serious livestock feed situation History could repeat itself 1 and 1952 may determine whe- ther we are going through that ‘‘wringer’ once more One way to avoid it is to get more corn , planted than was indicated on March 1.” ^Business Makers leaders, agricultural and community com- ^iteemen are urged to contact all farmers possible and urge them to increase corn plant- ings and production this spring. THE DADE COUNTY TIMES, TRENTON, GEORGIA, THURSDAY, APRIL 3, i952 PAID POLITICAL To The of Dade As a candidate for of your County in the election to be held April I wish to state my position some of the things that are vital interest and importance to you and our County. I assure you that I am aligned with, nor obligated any one person or group persons, and that when pd I will bp Ordinary lor ts people of Dade County _ There . has not . and , will ... not . . be of , jobs . . , any promises or „ „ There will be ample time the election to fill all jobs that the Ordinary might be in po¬ sition to offer. Ail jobs will be filled by the most efficient and agreeable persons obtainable. They must be willing to work and earn their compensation Just as if they were working for you, me or any other indi¬ vidual. I shall expect to employ a road foreman capable of su¬ pervising the building and maintenance of roads and of seeing that our machinery is kept in repair and not unduly abused and tom up He must cooperate with me in planning the work and then carry our plans through, he must be able to keep peace and harmony with all employees working un¬ der him and to cooperate fully with landowners adjacent to the roads. I promise that all sections of the County will receive their proportionate share of road work and that we will not wait until about a month or two before election time to try and make a big showing on your roads. I think it would be ad¬ visable to use good gravel or chert for surfacing roads, where it is available instead of hauling slag long distances. FOR SUPERINTENDENT OF DADE COUNTY SCHOOLS Every four years all School Systems in the State of Geor- gia elect or re-elect a Super- lntendent of Education. Dade County is not an exception, You are confronted at the pre- sent time with the re-election of one of two men. You have the record of eaoh of us, my opponents for eight years, mine at present, three years, and three months. You as Voters shall be the judges of 1 those records. Each of our re- cords has been hampered by ; insufficient funds — funds are necessary to make the needed progress that our children de- [ served, since children are the primary purpose of a School System. Through the cooperation of you and the Board of Educa¬ tion during my administration we have improved buildings. heating, transportation, seat- ing, more text books and sup- plied an improved teaching staff. Again I say we are not satisfied with the progress, we should not be content until we have one of the best systems possible for every child in Dade County. Let us ask ourselves, ‘-Are we satisfied with those records?” my answer is no! so Is yours. No is also he answer of the State of Georgia as the whole State enters into the greatest Educational Program in the south with teachers, salaries increased, and a Building Pro¬ gram now being undertaken by the State of Georgia. We shall have an opportunity to pro¬ gress Educationally as never before if we meet the challenge as we should. I have accepted every oppor¬ tunity to keep your Board of Education and myself inform¬ ed of the means that were ma{ j e available for the Dade County School System: I shall continue to do so until my term expires, and thereafter, if I am re-elected as your Super¬ intendent. The next Superin¬ tendent will have a great res¬ ponsibility to our children. If my record merits your sup¬ port, your influence and Vote will be appreciated, and I pledge greater service if you see fit to select me for your of- fic. Tatum. FOR SHERIFF To the voters of Dade County: I am a candidate for reelec¬ tion to the office of Sheriff of Dade County, subject to the Democratic Primary, April 12. As all of you know, my hands are tied in this campaign and I may not get around to see you before election. I will be home soon but will have to depend on the good people of Dade County to fight the battle for me. I have discharged my duties as your Sheriff as faithfully as circumstances would permit. During my term of office I did not allow evil politicians who are trying to gain control of Dade County for their own selfish motives to dictate to me. So I w r as snatched up and sent away from my family and away from the good people of Dade County and away from my office. This caused my fa¬ mily to suffer and has been torture to me because I have been away from them. Of course all of this wil be evened up and fully recompensed in the great day of Judgement. But right now, won't you take your stand for the right and vote for me and use your in¬ fluence to help me be reelected as your Sheriff? I will show my appreciation by rendering faithful service. J. I earnestly ask your support at the polls, on May 14 ,1952 for this job. I am thirty years of age, I am married and have two little boys, one IV* years and one 9 months. I live in Sum¬ merville, Georgia, where I was born. I have practiced law in Summerville since being admitted to the Bar. I served with the Army in the 69th Infantry Division during World War II, and served two years overseas in combat with a rifle company and in the occupation of Germany. During the past two years I have served in the Georgia State Senate representing the 42nd Senatorial District. Since entering the practice of law I have qualified my¬ self to hold the office of Solicitor General by trying many cases, both civil and criminal, and being engaged in a gen¬ eral law practice. I have always attempted to present my cases to the court and jury iA a fair and open manner and when elected your Solicitor I shall continue to present the State’s cases without partiality to any one. In my past political life I have not asked for or been supported by political factions but I took my candidacy to the people. I shall not accept in this race help from those persons or grouns which would bind me to an "obligation which I can not fulfill- Waste in our courts of time and taxpayer's money is a terrible wrong to the people. My cases will be prepared be¬ fore I come in the courtroom and the juries of the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit will not be kept waiting because of the Solicitor’s office. I am unalterably opposed to the sale, legal or illegal, of beer, wine, whiskey or any other alcoholic beverages and will fight to stamp it out. When I am elected your Solicitor I pledge the follow¬ ing as my platform: 1. Co-operation with Law enforcement officers in stamping out “bootlegging.” 2. Co-operation with the Judges in running our courts as efficiently as possible. 3. Doing my part to make the job of jury duty as less burdensome as possible. 4. Dollar for dollar value for all State’s work in the Courts. 5. See that time and tax money is not wasted by try¬ ing borderline and spite cases.
