VORK UNDERWAY
ON FIFTH UNIT
AT 4-H CENTER
The Georgia 4-H Club Foun¬
dation this week announced
the beginning of construction
cn the fifth 100 -capacity unit
for the State 4-H Club Center
a Rock Eagle Park
G I Johnson. Universiy oi
Georgia Agricultural Extension
Service engineer and chairman
of the Rock Eagle building com
mittee, said the new unit in¬
cludes cottages No. 24 through
No. 30.
The Foundation also report¬
ed that work on the first of
eight educational and demon¬
stration buildings is progres¬
ing. with the $25,000 structure
already to the floor level. A
$25,000 contribution from thfe
Callaway Comunity Foundation
is being applied on this build¬
ing.
As work on the 4-H Club Cen¬
ter moves along, plans are be¬
ing carried out to improve the
public area. Footings have
been poured for the public res¬
taurant, and five permanent
picnic tables have been erect¬
ed, with several more to be
built.
Johnson said the first 18
cottages at the 4-H Center af-e
virtually complete. All that re¬
mains to be done before this
300-capacity unit will be ready
for dedication in August dur¬
ing the State 4-H Club Council
meeting is painting 12 cottages
and laying the tile floor in the
same number.
The educational and demon-
tration building already under¬
way for this unit is expected to
be near completion by August
1 , and work on the second such
building will be in full swing.
These large buildings, 85 by
40 feet, are being constructed
with brick to distinguish them
from the cottages. The one
now under construction will
have a large assembly room, 70
by 40 feet, two small confer¬
ence rooms and two rest rooms.
Johnson said the building
will be equipped with black¬
out curtains, making it conve¬
nient for day-time movies. He
added that a ventilating system
has been planned that will per¬
mit cooling of the building at
all times, even when the cur¬
tains are drawn.

Johnson said the 4-H Foun¬

one of the four units across the
Jake and in front of the first
18 cottages built at the Cen¬
ter. This means that three
unis, 54 cottages, will be on the
lake side.
The building committee
chairman said work has begun
on a five-foot wide bridge to
make the new area accessible.
The bridge, he said, is being
built of pressure-treated poles
and timber according to high¬
way specifications.
The Foundation has given
the green light on making a
contour map of the new area.
When this” is completed Paul
Crawford, T. G. Williams, and

the preliminary sight planning
for the buildings.
The architect has been com¬
missioned to draw plans for
the chapel for the 4-H Center.
John-on said this building, to
resemble a small church, will
have room for 100 persons at
a time.
