Camden County
Pulpwood
Producer
FOUNDED 1777
COUNTY SEAT, WOODBINE
Camden has one of the most romantic histories in Georgia,
for here Indians, Spaniards, French and English roamed.
St. Mary’s, a seaport center for supplying fish and shrimp
to canneries, is thought to have been an ancient Indian
village to which French Huguenots fled in 1562. Many
Acadians banished with Evangeline found their way to
this territory. Today, Camden leads the state that leads
the nation in pulpwood production. Construction of a
$21,000,000 Army ammunition loading terminal near
St. Mary’s, which will employ about 1,500, also will
benefit the economy of the area.
In this and other Georgia counties, the United States
Brewers Foundation works constantly to maintain whole¬
some conditions where beer and ale are sold. Clbse atten¬
tion is given areas near camps of the Armed forces and
both military officials and Georgia law enforcement
officers have commended the Foundation’s self-regulation
program. Retailer educational meetings offer sound sugges¬
tions for continued operation in the community s interest.
