Crane #iad es* caped from the Milfedgevilie hospital, a branch of the state penitentiary, on September 10 1950 , while serving a five-year sentence for manslaughter. sheriff Graham had taken Crane into custody in Chatta- nooga cn Monday, December 14, after being released by the Tennessee authorities on the strength of a warrant from the state of Georgia authorizing the transfer. He had reportedly been taken into custody by Tennessee law enforcement of- ficers on a burglary charge, Crane was also suspected of the murder of June Nesbit, which occurred in Dade Coun- ty two years ago, but was ne- ver brought to trial for this charge.
