FALL PERFORMANCE
Farmers who plan to carry
out practices on their farms be¬
tween now and December 31,
1954 are reminded now is the
time to file their request for
Federal ccst-sharing.
If a farmer requested Federal
cost-sharing for a spring pract-
tice and did not report that it
was completed before June 15,
or requested an extension of
time to complete the practice
it was necessary necessary for the cost-
sharing for the practice to be
canceled. The cancellation of
the practices requested for
spring does not mean that the
isame practice or any mere need-
' ed practice cannot be requested
for the faim this fall.
Farmers are urged to file their
requests for fall practices any
1 time within the next month or
1 so, but it will be to their ad¬
vantage to file their requests
early while funds ate available
so that the county committee
will be in a position to give
itheir requests favorable con¬
sideration.
Farmers are further remind-

L. C. ADAMS
A survey to determine the
northern limits of survival of
oveiwintering screw-worms has
just been completed by the
Antcmology Research Branch of
the U.S.D.A. This survey shows
that the screw-worm survived
the winter in South Georgia as
far north as Glynn, Wayne,
Telfair, Dodge (southern part),
Turner, Lee Terrell and Early
counties. Early spring activity
and northward movement cf
the pest also was indicated.
If weather conditions are fav¬
orable to the screw r -worm, ac¬
cording to the survey report,
the pest can be expected to de¬
velop into a considerably great¬
er menace than it has been
since the fall of 1950. Since the
adult flies are strong fliers and
can spread as much as 25 to
35 miles per week, infestation
can occur throughout the state
within a short time. Owners of
livestock should be on the iook-
for screw-wcrm infestations
in their animals. The preven¬
tion of wounds and prompt
treatment of wounds that do oc¬
cur will do much to reduce the
number of screw-worm cases.
Newborn animals should receive
prompt attention.
Smear EQ-335 will give ex¬
cellent control of screw-worms
in infested wounds and will
protect uninfested wounds.
Smear 62 is also effective. In
formation giving details are to
be found in Extension Circular
351 and is available at the coun¬
ty agent’s office.
