About The Dade County times. (Trenton, Ga.) 1908-1965 | View Entire Issue (March 1, 1956)
To The Voters of Dade County On next Wednesday, March 7 , you will go to the polls to select your County officials for the next four year term beginning Jan. 1, 1957 . As you know I am a candidate for re-election to the office of Ordinary. Under out present form of County Government, the Ordinary is also the sole Commis¬ sioner of the County in charge of the county affairs and certainly one of the most important county officers. I have been serving as Ordinary for a little more than three years. In the February 23 issue of the Dade County Times some of the accomplish¬ ments of my administrator i were set cut. I have not been able to do every¬ thing for the people of the county that I wanted to, hut have worked hard and continuously at the job and I feel like a good deal of progress has beer, made. We are in the beginning of a Rural Road paving program which will mean much to the people of this County and I would like to be able tc continue my efforts to get as much of this Rural Road money as possible. Most of you know me personally You'know that I was born and raised in Dade County, that I have lived here most of my life and that my main in¬ terests are here in Dade County. Most of you know that I have conducted the affairs of the County fairly, honestly and impartially. Based upon this record, if you think I merit a second tern, I will appreciate very much youi vote and support. If you elect me for another term, I will continue to work hard for the interests of the people of Dade County and I will continue tc purchase all materials and supplies in Dade County that are available. I also promise you that no licenses for the sale of Beer will be issued by me as long as I am your Ordinary. The privilege of voting is one ot the highest privileges of a Democracy I sincerely hope that each and everyone will make a special effort to exer¬ cise this privilege on next Wednesday, March 7. Respectfully Submitted R. M. Morrison TO THE CITIZENS OF DADE COUNTY I wish to take this means to announce my candidacy lor the office of Ordinary of Dade County. In making this race I am fully aware of the responsi¬ bilities of this office. It has been rumored that I have been put into this race oy both of my opponents. I wish to state here and now that this is not true. I am making this race on my own accord, and at the insistence of many of the citi zens of the County, who would like to see and drive over better roads in our County. I feel that T am qualified to serve the peo¬ ple of Dade County as Ordinary, having served as Road Super¬ visor seven years and worked on our roads nine years prior to that. I attended school in Dade County and Hiwassee College at Madisonvillc, Tenn. I served two years in the U. S. Army during World War I, served in France, Belgium and Italy. If elected I will work to the best interest of all the people of our County, and not for one group or clique. I shall ever be grateful to you for your vote and support. Sincerely, Harold Cox. • Paid Political Advertisement) VOTE FOR G. The Concrete blocks are on ground that Roy Moore and the Board of Education traded to Moore's sister, Mrs. Hay good. This school ground was cleared and sowed by the people of New Salem. The first trading of this property was made without the peo¬ ple of the New Salem Community knowing about it. When the citizens of New Salem found out what was hap¬ pening, we called a meeting and asked Mrs. Haygood not to go through with the petition and got 95 signers who are citizens of the New Salem District. 1 HI' DADE COUNTY TIMES, TRENTON, GEORGIA, THURSDAY MARCH 1, 1956 THE DADE COUNTY TIMES HRS. Notice to Voters and My Supporters This week being the last publication of the Dade County Times, I want to again ask your support and express my appreciation for same. I also want to again ask you to BEWARE of accusations going around by my enemies (not my opponent) that are untrue and false and are only in¬ tended to carry out a threat made against me several months ago by them. I am blamed for many things that were not my decisions. I am sure you are mindful of that and will give me proper consideration. One of these de¬ cisions was a land exchange at New Salem School in which y 2 acre belong¬ ing to the Board of Education was traded for more than 1V 2 acres. The exchange was made by the County Board of Education who had the authority to do so. It was realized and unanimously agreed by the Board that the exchange was better for school purposes. Such exchange was not within my authority and therefore, could not be made by me as my opposi¬ tion states. There will be no mixing of races during my administration. Again I ask you to consider the progress made in cooperation with State and County Authorities, as well as P. T. A.'s and other organizations and al¬ so individuals during my administration. Your vote and influence will be greatly appreciated. Respectfully Submitted Roy W. Moore When Roy Moore and the Board of Education found out that so many were against this deal, they decided to drop it. But when talk died down a little, Moore and the Board had the deed chang¬ ed and put the trade through to Moore's sister Mrs. Haygood and husband who had the blocks put on the ground and started build¬ ing a store and service station in front of the New Salem School which, if completed, will block view of school from Scenic High¬ way. A petition of injunction was brought against the Hay goods, Roy Moore and the Board of Education, and is now in State Supreme Court. It is 220 feet from steps of school to store building. It is rumored that the property that was traded for is needed for play ground. It isn't needed and some of it is not fit for play ground. Indignant Citizens of New Salem
