Farm Bureau News
Dade County farmers are find¬
ing their cost of production
steadily climbing, with increased
cosst and declining farm prices,
the farmer is in a
squeeze. It becomes imperative
that farmers cut every corner
possible to obtain reduced
) cost.
I should like to urge our farm¬
ers to consider the savings pos¬
sible through refund on farm-
used gasoline. This saving
made possible through
Farm Bureau. Let’s take a
at the history of state and fer-
ral taxation of gasoline.
What started off to be a one
cent gasoline tax has ended
temporarily at least, to be a
tantamount to a 44 per
9.5 cent iper gallon tax. This
sales tax on gasoline. The
gas tax on 3 cents went into ef¬
fect las Sunday. The
federal gas tax, along with in-
creadsed federal automotive tax_
es going into effect, all last Sun¬
day, means an increase of $13
the next 13 years.
Let’s every farmer in Dade Co¬
unty take advantagge of the
federal and state gasoline tax
refund on farm-used gasoline.
The combined refund, yours for
filing an application, will total
S l / 2 cents per gallon, 5Y 2 cents
of the 6Va cennts state tax and
3 cents of the 3 cents federal
gasoline tax. This totals $8.50 per
hunderd gallons. Your County
Agent will be glad to assist you
in making refund applications.
He also has the blanks for this
refund.
Your Georgia Farm Bureau
was instrumental in obtaning
legislation whereby farmers coul d
file for refund of the state gaso¬
line tax. Five and one-half off
the 6.5 state gasoline tax goes for
building and maintaning of
roads. It is this 5Vfe cents that
farmers can obtain refund for
on-farm used gasoline.
Farmers can file for refund of
the federal tax used since Jan¬
uary 1, 1956, beginning July 1.
Farmers will want to become
fapiiliar with filing for these
refunds.
