BIRTHDAY PARTY GIVEN
A .surprise birthday party was
given for James William Cure-
ton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dud¬
ley Cureton, celebrating his
10th birthday, July 23. There
were 25 children and 10 adults
present. Most of the afternoon
was spent swimming in the pool.
Refreshments were a huge cake,
ice cream and drinks.

Army Pvt. George Oacmpbell,
whose wife, Joyce, lives in Av¬
ans, Ga., recently participated
in annual battery tests with
(the 868th Field Artillery Bat-
taion in Germany.
The tests determined his bat-
tey’s proficiency in firing wea¬
pons, establishing communica¬
tions and maintaing defense
perimeters.
Campbell, son of Mr. & Mrs.
Jordon C. Cambell, South Pit¬
tsburg, Tenn., is a rod and
tape man in Battery C of the
battalion. He entered the Army
in May 1955 and received basic
traning at Fort Chaffe, Ark,
He arrived in Europe in Oct¬
ober of that year.
Cambell was a farmer in
civilian life.

Army PFC Tommy F. Lank¬
ford, whose wife, Katherine,
lives on Route 2, Rising Fawn,
Ga., is a member of the 601st
Field Artillery Missle Battalion
in Germany.
Langford, son of John F,
Langford,, 147 N. Main St., La¬
fayette, entered the Army in
January 1955 and recived basic
training at Fort Bliss, Tez. -He
arrived overseas las April.
Aberdeen Proving Ground,
Md., June 25 ROTC cadets re¬
presenting nearly every state,
Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas,
arrived at Aberdeen Proving
Ground this weekend, and to¬
day began six weeks of inten¬
sive classroom instruction and
praotical exercises in both the
technical and tactical missions
of the Ordance Corps.
Among the 260 cadets here

Morrison.
The 1956 Summer Camp,
with participants from 23 col¬
leges and universities across
the county, has less than half
of last year’s enrollmennt due
to Department of the Army
revision of the ROTC program.
Even with 44-hour duty weeks
during the traning perioid, in
stead of the previous 48-hour
weeks, the camp will continue
to stress development of their
abilities, including periods in
command of cadet companies
and battalions, -and prefor-
mances of staff duties at all
levels.
A demonstration of the Or¬
dnance Corps’ latest contribu¬
tions to the nation’s armed
might will conclude the six
weeks of traning, followed by
a cadet review on August 3,
during which 40 of the cadets •
will be commissioned second
[lieutenants in the United
States Army Reserve.
