Mrs. Kathryn Davis, Dade County director of welfare, is in Savannah this week attend¬ ing the annpal Georgia Confer¬ ence on Social Welfare. She will return to her office Monday. Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Leatherwood, mother of Rev. H. H. Leatherwood, were held Feb. 2b in McMinn County. She passed away Feb. 21 at the home of her son south of Trenton. Just about the only observ¬ ance of Washington’s Birthday here in the county was the clos¬ ing of the bank and post office, and the halt of mail deliveries. All federal employees had the day off. Mr. E. L. Raulston and his sister, Miss Mamie Raulston, of Chattanooga are visiting Dr. and Mrs. Jack Raulston iti Boyn¬ ton Beach, Fla., and we are glad to report he is enjoying himself considerably. On Monday, Mrs. Brock attended a meeting of the Tennessee So¬ ciety of Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, at which time she received biographical rec¬ ords of 56 ancestors of members of the Society which has been compiled in book form. Mrs. Brock will present the data at the national conference of the Society in Richmond, Va., in April. Our series on community correspondents will be re¬ sumed next week with Mrs. D. P. The project includes the averag¬ ing of grades to determine the Star Roll and Honor Roll. A student must have a scholar¬ ship average of 95 or above and a conduct of 95 or above with no unlawful absences in order to be eligible. To make the hon¬ or roll a student must have a scholarship average of 85 or above an<i a conduct grade of 90 or above with no unlawful absence.
