Mrs. Phennie Farmer cele¬
brated her 70th birthday and
Mrs. Isabelle Long celebrated her
68th this past week and so Sun¬
day morning exercises at the
chapel included the birthday
song being sung to them. Mr.
Boyd Farmer and Mrs. Louis
Bennett are children of Mrs.
farmer who live in this com¬
munity. Mr. Aubrey Long is the
son of Mrs. Long and they re¬
side on McFarland Road.
The attendance banner is still
held by the adult class, although
it was given close competition by
the young peoples’ class having
only three less than the adults.
The first Moody Bible Corre¬
spondence Course was com¬
pleted by Mrs. George Hale, Mrs.
D. N. Veal, Mr .and Mrs. Aubrey
Long, Mrs. Isabelle Long, Mr.
and Mrs. George Stiff, Mary El¬
len Veal and Mrs. Arthur Pflug.
The class has been taught by
Pastor Arthur Pflug. Nine have
enrolled in the second course
and will be meeting once a week
in the homes.
Troop 144 meets at the chapel
each Thursday. Louis Bennett is
the leader and the two assist¬
ants are D. N. Veal and Harry
Clark. They are enrolled and in^the
Cherokee Council are spon¬
sored by a committee of men
from the Chapel.
Norman Farmer is the patrol
leader of the Wolfs. The follow¬
ing boys are in the patrol: Ray
Farmer, Bradley Harp, Jerry
Higdon, Cecil Phillips, Ronald
Rowland, Gus Stone, Melvin Veai
and Leonard Hixon.
Buford Craig is the patrol
leader of the Whippoorwills. The
following boys are in that pa¬
trol: Billy Cole, Kenneth Ful-
ghum, Marvin Higdon, John
Powell, Charles Veal, Junior
Dabbs and Buddy Gill.
The regular singing will be
held at the Chapel Tuesday
night, March 26, at 7:30. Make
plans to view the log cabin the
boys have been working on and
when completed will be their
meeting place. It is located on
the Community Center Roa’d.
We miss the county nurse’s
monthly visit to us and have
hopes of a new one. We under¬
stand Dr. Hutchison will finish
any of the series of shots that
have -been started by Miss Mc¬
Whorter.

We are sorry that we will be
losing Raymond Neal Friday.
He is moving awmy.
Mrs. Lila Adkins taught the
third and fourth grades while
Mrs. Johnson visited Fortune
School in LaFayette.
Our cooks took a nice trip to
Savannah. While they were
gone, Mrs. Childress and Mrs.
Huskey cooked for us.
We have had several boys and
girls out sick recently.
One of the New Salem Schoc)
students, Peck Pennington of the
sixth grade, came to school bare¬
footed on a cold morning. He
must think it’s spring.

and the Rev. Bell preached an
inspiring sermon. We also had
a good attendance. Wouldn’t it
be wonderful if we could have
100 attendance? If you are not
going to church and Sunday
