PAGE 2 LOCALS Mr. H. E. Gross is driving a new white Dodge. Mr. Gene Brandon is home from the hospital. Mrs. Joe Mayhew is ill with pneumonia in a Chaltanooga hospital. Mrs. Johnny Murphy of Byrd’s Chapel has also been very ill. Miss Lorraine Pace is the guest of her sister, Mrs. John Bruner, in South Georgia. * Miss Wilma Pace will leave Saturday for Detroit, Mich., to take a field course in public health nursing. • We are sorry to learn of the death of Mr. Joe Murphy in Men¬ lo, Ga., on Tuesday. Mr. Murphy was a member of a pioneer Dade County family. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Gass and family visited their daughter, Mrs. J. D. Gregory, in Callafran, A;a., Sunday. Dr. D. S. Middleton was not brought home from the hospital last week, as we reported, which was due to bad weather. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Page and children, Mrs. W. E. Page and Miss Sally Mae Page enjoyed a trip to Birmingham Sunday. Mrs. E. A. Ellis spent several days in a Chattanooga hospital undergoing treatment last week¬ end. Mr. John McCauley, who has spent the past several months In a hospital as a result of an automobile accident, returned home about 10 days ago. Mrs. Purdle Slaton is in Flori¬ da for a two or three-month visit with her daughter. We hear that she is touring points of Interest and having a lovely ttime. Mrs. M. J. Hale is spending (this week with her sister, Mrs. Duke Broome, in Chickamauga. Mrs. Broome is recovering from a major operation and was brought home from the hospital the first of the week. Mesdames E. F. Moore, Ethel Payne, Ruth Keeton and Mr. T. S. Renfroe attended a Georgia Power demonstration of new cooking equipment in Rome last Friday. Mrs. Payne was the lucky winner of a carving knife, which was one of the door prizes. Last Thursday night’s snow delighted most everyone, it seems. The children had a fine time playing in i,t and the adults appreciated the pretty picture the snow created as it fell throughout the county. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Austin McKaig are the parents of a son, Howard Austin, Jr., born March 6. The baby “weighed in” at nine pounds and one ounce. A daughter, Patty Lynn, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dowdy on March 10. The infant weighed 8 pounds and 3 ounces. Mr. and Mrs. Clay 'Decker of Fort Jerves, N. Y., are announc¬ ing the arrival of an 8 lb. 6 oz. daughter on Feb. 28. The little girl has been named Delilah Maxine. Mrs. Deckeer is the for¬ mer Miss Delilah Holland. BUY U. S. Their vows were spoken at 6 o’clock in the evening w r ith only mem- oers of the immediate families present. Mr. Joe Mayhew, father of the groom and minister oi the church, performed the dou- Dle-ring ceremony. The bride was beautiful in a dress of light blue brocaded silx v/ith a corsage of pink hyacinths. A senior at Dade High School, she will continue her education. Mr. Mayhew, the son of Mr .and Mrs. Joe Mayhew, is a graduate of Dade High and is employed at Cramet Co. in Chattanooga. His only sister is Mrs. Walter Haering, also of Trenton. The young couple will reside with the groom’s parents for the present. HOOKER Pvt. Marvin Hunt, who is sta¬ tioned at Camp LeJeune, N. C., arrived Monday to spend several days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hunt. Mrs. J. E. Strawn spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Stan¬ ley Winfrey in Atlanta. Mr. Clyde Kilgore spent Tues¬ day in Atlanta. Merrill Smith and Norris Sims visited Howard Strawn Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Coates and children were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Johnsons Sunday. Mrs. J. F. Tittle is ill at Er- langer Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mallock and Mrs Annie Narry of Se- wanee, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Hayden Strawn. Mr. and Mrs. Barnes and fam¬ ily have moved into this com¬ munity from South Pittsburg. Mrs. Wilma Durham and daughter, Wilma, of Wildwood visited Mrs. Thelma Bell Sat¬ urday. Several from Hooker at¬ tended Quarterly Conference at Slygo Methodist Church Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Smith and children of Soddy, Tenn., and Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Pilgrim and daughter of Rockwood, Tenn., visited Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Smith, Sr. and other relatives here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. George Jenkins visited Mr. and Mrs. John Adams Sunday. Mrs. Jenkins stayed with Mrs. Adams, who is ill. Mr. Mose Robinson, who passed away at his home at Whiteside Saturday, was buried in Hooker Cemetery Tuesday afternoon.
