Patrons Begin Work
Project on School
Patrons of Davis School have
begun a work project on the old
barracks which are located on the
school grounds and hope to have
an attractive place in which to
hold several classes this fall.
Since the split session plan will
not be in use this term, as it
was believed earlier, patrons of
the school decided to try to make
the barracks do for another term,
or until more classroom space is
available.
The grass about the buildings
have been cut and some carpen¬
ter work done. About 15 or 20
ladies showed up Monday to paint
the interior, with the outside to be
painted by the men.

DADE WELFARE DEPT ............
(Continued from Page 1)
elude adoptions, of which four ap¬
plications were received, three dis¬
posed of, three are pending, two
referred by court and one disposed
of. Cancer Clinic referrals num¬
bered three; Vocational Rehabili¬
tation referrals totaled 34; Train¬
ing School applications numbered
three, while there were four out-
of-town inquiries.
The total amount spent on all
these programs was $196,422.00.
Of this amount, only $7,360.00 was
spent by the county, with the state
paying the rest.
According to remarks in the re¬
port bulletin, the public assistance
program’s aim is to be impartial
to all. It does not pretend to meet
the needs of all of the people who
come into the office, but a helping
hand is extended as far as the de¬
partment’s resources will reach.
Mrs. Davis, who is assisted by
Miss Imogene Blevins, clerk, has
expressed appreciation to the fol¬
lowing for their interest and serv¬
ices which made the work of the
welfare department profitable the
past year:
Dave T. Brown, chairman, Mrs.
F. N. Belk, vice-chairman of the
county welfare board; Ordinary
A. W. Peck, church groups, civic
organizations, Tri-County Hospital
staff, Dr. N. H. Hutchison, Dade
County Health Department, Social
Security Administration, Voca¬
tional Rehabilitation and indivi¬
duals.
