PAGE 6 SOIL CONSERVATION NEWS COL. D. E. MORRISON District Supervisor A1 Webb, SCS Technician J. E. Cole in Slygo Valley has just completed a small pond on his farm. Mr Cole chose to dig the pond deep instead of wide to insure cool w'ater for his cows on hot days. The dam has a long, fairly flat, back slope that blends with the natural ground and can be sown and mowed with the rest of the pasture. We have found another bel¬ iever in making use of the wast¬ ed space around row-crop fields ior wildlife and turning farm machinery. Elmer Smith in the Davis community on Sand Mountain plans to sow 20 ft. wide sericea strips around his row crop fields. He plans to cut the sericea for hay in early spring, then let it make seed for quail. House Moving (Continued from page 1) to persons offering the highest bid. Although Payne and Dean have moved numerous buildings in the Chattanooga area, this was their first to be brought down the highway and through Trenton. An escort was provided by Sheriff Allison Blevins from the time the moving began, at ap¬ proximately 11 a. m., until the entourage turned off the high¬ way on Crabtree Street at the caution light south of the square. There were several tight squeezes, but with the aid of an employee on the roof of the house who lifted light and tele¬ phone wires and tree branches, and W. C. Payne, who walked along in front to size up the situation, the house went ithrough intact except for some scratches. At times it was necessary to clear away obstructions and it was reported by a spokesman lor the concern that restitution will be made to property owners . whose shrubbery etc. was dama¬ ged. The house was sold to Vernon Gass and is now on the corner lot opposite the Standard Oil warehouse next to the railroad.
