KVERY WOMAN dreams of a kitchen that is both beautiful and practical, but she may need some help in planning it. That’s when our Home Service Division is happy to lend a hand, at no cost or obligation. Last year these experienced home economists designed 1,801 modern, W’ork-saving, time-saving kitchens for Georgia homemakers. They also plan home laundries, home lighting and wiring. Their job is to help you enjoy the comfort and convenience of electrical living. Extra service, some may call it, but to us it is just making electric service extra good. GEORGIA POWER COMPANY A CITIZEN W H t R E V E R WE SERVE THE DADE COUNTY TIMES, TRENTON, GEORGIA, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER U, IBM RISING FAWN PUPILS SOON TO EAT IN STL YE If all the equipment would arrive right now and if the heating men would start work, pupils of the Rising School would be eating in the modern new cafeteria in no time, according to Marvin V. Bradley, resident engineer with the State School Building Auth¬ ority. In an interview last Wednes¬ day with Mr. Bradley, whose job is to oversee all work concerned with the new additions to both the Rising Fawn and New Salem Schools, he said that about two weeks’ work remained for the first named project. However, the New Salem project will be a little longer in being completed. On Wednesday of last week, the lathers were working and the plasterers were due to arrive ab New Salem the following day. The two projects differ in that Rising Fawn's addition is an attractive and ultra-modern cafeteria, while 'the New Salem (addition includes a teachers’ lounge, clinic and one class- troom. Both schools were ori¬ ginally scheduled for a general remodeling j o b which would have replaced blackboards, peeling paint, cracked plaster and other building faults, but when the county school system had to start cutting the budget iin order to meet necessary ex¬ penses, this part of ‘the project was abandoned. In the past, Rising Fawn pupils ate in a “lean-to" added onto the north side of the rear of the building. This little frame room housed the kitchen and a couple of long tables with ben¬ ches and was reached only by an outside entrance. The child¬ ren had to stand in line out¬ doors in the mud if it had been raining in order to get their lunches. When the new cafeteria is completed, there will be none o* the previous discomfort, for the new addition i s reached by walking down to the end of the hallway on the north dde of the building, through double doors and down a short flight of con¬ crete steps t o a second hall which leads both outdoors and into the cafeteria. They may be used as either “in and out” doors or both as “in” doors. The cafeteria itself is a large, well- lighted, pleasant room, with huge paned windows on either side. Opposite ‘the entrance doors Is the alcove which will be used for a cooking and serving area. Counters and appliances, as well as storage cabinets are yet to be added. To -the right is a little room for- dishwashing, with a pass through for depositing trays of dirty dishes. The concrete block walls have been painted ocean green but the concrete floors are still bare of tile. In the kitchen, a de¬ pression has been left in the floor to open a drain for easier cleaning. The painters were still busy painting around the windows on the middle of last week, some on the outside and others working Indoors. The outside of the new addition is red .brick with con¬ crete trim and a flat roof. A dream which has been in the making for Rising Fawn for a long time, ‘the new cafeteria will also be of enormous benefit to all the children who are stu¬ dents there, for such an attrac¬ tive place will surely inspire them to bigger and better things—if not now, then when they are grown and have child¬ ren of their own.
