Also ele¬ cted to serve during the next year were Mrs. T. J. Bell, secre¬ tary; Mrs. Harold Gross, treas¬ urer; and Mrs. Asa L. McMahan, reporter. New project chairmen are to be appointed. < Members of the nominating committee were the outgoing officers: Mlrs. Jack Cash, presi¬ dent; Mrs. N. H. Hutchison, vice-president; Mrs. Troy Wis- ner, secretary; and Mrs. Lewis Whited, treasurer. Interesting reports from three project chairmen were heard during the meeting. Mrs. Har¬ old Gross told of unusual ways' of decorating with paint, while Mrs. Martin Nethery described correct canning and freezing procedures, also giving hints on making the job easier, and Mrs. N. Another report was heard from the scrapbook committee, with a meeting night set for working on the book. A most interesting demonst¬ ration was given by Miss Naomi Hubble, home demonstration agent, who showed colored slides pf Christmas decorations for both interiors and exteriors of homes. She also made some beautiful decorations using sim¬ ple objects such as a gold- painted roman brick, white candles, a white madonna fig¬ urine, spruce, Christmas balls and a water goblet painted gold. Mrs. Roy McBryar, who was ■hostess for the meetfing, had arranged several lovely harvest arrangements throughout her home. The dining table was covered with an aqua cloth and centered with a whimsical tur¬ key made from a large pine cone and pleated brown and red con- s-rufction paper. All about the •turkey had been placed small brown and red leaves with yel¬ low popcorn showing through. Assisting Mrs. McBryar entertaining were Farrell Bradford and Christopher. LEE SCRUGGS HOME BURNS AT CLOVERDALE The Lee Scruggs home burned Wednesday shortly before noon from fire of a unknown orgin. Located In the Cloverdale com¬ munity, the house and all its furnishings were lost. It was reported that Mrs. Scruggs had just left to attend a funeral when she looked back over her shoulder and saw smoke coming from the house. Dan Hall, Forest Ranger, and Earl Simmons of the ranger crew were called to the scene, 1 but by the time they arrived it | was too late to save the building. The doors, which had been loc¬ ked when Mlrs. Scruggs left, gave some difficulty in entering. It was believed the fire started *t<he attic. NEW SALEM HOLDING FALL FESTIVAL NOV. 80 It has been announced that the New Salem School will spon¬ sor a Fall Festival at the school on Saturday, Nov. 30, beginning at 6:30 p. m. A king and queen will be elected, also a prince and prin¬ cess. There will be cake walks, a fish pond, country store and all the usual good food. Every¬ one is invited to come and have a good time. GROVER GILBREATH BAGS 9-POINTER Grover Gilbreath, local dental technician, bagged a nine-point buck late Saturday afternoon weighing 200 pounds. The deer was the best of the 25 killed that day by a party of hunters on a three-day hunt. j The kill was made in Hale County, Alabama, where Mr. Gilbreath has a hunting camp.
