(Continued from page 1)
The most used program is the
AGP which provides Federal
Cost-sharing to assist farmers
in carrying out needed conser¬
vation on their farms. Under the
1958 protgram approximately
$16,500 has been allocated to
farms on which a request has
been filed and approved by the
county committee. Very few
farmers have reported practices
completed on their farms due to
adverse weather conditions—
now, with the sunshine we ex¬
pect to have practices completed
and reported by June 30, 1968.
Farmers who have not filed a
request for federal cost-shares
and who plan to complete prac¬
tices on their farms this fall
should file requests not later
•than July 31, 1958.
The potential in forestry pract
ices should not be overlooked
and there again is Federal cost-
sharing to assist the landowners
who would like to improve an
existing stand of timber or the
landowner who has an acreage
he would like to plant to trees.
Farmers have benefited by the
Acreage Reserve Programs in the
cQpnty by retiring acreage from
surplus crops to soil Conserving
crops. This makes for a two-fold
benefit to the farmer since he
earns his Acreage Reserve Pay¬
ment and is building his soil at
the same time.
Let’s work harder in 1958
make Dade County more pros¬
perous through the soils.
