Alien CLERK EXHIBIT “A” We, the committee appointed by the Grand Jury, to inspect the County buildings found the following to-wit: We, found the jail to be clean and in need of the following re¬ pairs. The out side, living room and kitchen should be repaint¬ ed, the gutters need cleaning out, new screens are needed and a grill is needed to cover the (Screens upstairs, the excess water In basement should be remedied, more shelves should be installed in the storeroom, the plumbing needs repairs up¬ stairs, one heater, one light switch and one box for a light up-stairs should be repaired. The old garage behind the jail should be torn down and re¬ placed with a new one since to irepair same would be more ex¬ pensive than a new building. We, the committee, inspect the cannery building and it was found to be clean and in good order and recommend the fol¬ lowing repairs: One door sill ishould be installed in the selec¬ tive service office, we recom¬ mend that the entire cannery be painted outside and we recom¬ mend the installation of the rest room. We, the committee, inspected the court house and found same to be clean and in good order and recommend ventilation for ithe rest rooms located in the basement. B. B. Kenimer H. M. Atkins C. G. Quinton EXHIBIT “B” We, the committee, appointed by the Grand Jury to inspect the Books of the various offices of the County, beg to report as follows: We have examined, rather thoroughly, the Books of the Ordinary, Treasurer and School Superintendent. We find same, as far as we could ascertain, to be correct and well kept. And. igo further to say that the re¬ cords and methods of keeping receipts and disbursements are excellent. We studied, with much interest, the County Digest and we are alarmed at what we find. Although the County has grown in popula¬ tion, improvements, homes and expanded services, we find that the overall assessed valuation of t h e County has decreased $30,085.00 from the preceeding year, which means with the ex¬ panded services, Forestry, Agri¬ culture, Health and Sanitation, Hospitalization, Welfare, Schools, Roads and numerous others. With the great increased cost of operation, materials, labor, and etc., we find that County is having to operate on decreased revenue and are hav¬ ing to retrench at a time when people are demanding more services. We recommend that the Tax Commissioner put forth every effort to collect all delinquent taxes and in all cases where failure of property owners to pay that Fi Fa’s may issue. G. V. Green J. Z.
