The other day little Billy
Pullen was in the yard playing,
while his mother was in the
house taking care of the daily
chores, suddenly one of the win¬
dows on the side of the house
where Billy was playing, crash¬
ed. His mother went to the win¬
dow and looked out, saw Billy
and asked him, “ what happen¬
ed?” Billy said, “I was cleaning
my flip and it went off

Saturday night, Jan. 24, the
Emory & Henry College chorus,
the Collegians, will present a
return performance at the Ris¬
ing Fawn Methodist Church.
Those who heard the thrilling
program are delighted to have
them again. The concert will
begin promptly at 7:30 and not
at 7:45 as previously announced.
There is no admission charge
but an offering will be taken to
assist in their traveling expen¬
ses.
The James Castleberry’s have
purchased the Alvin Whited
home. The Whited’s are occup¬
ying the upstairs apartment
until their new home ibeing
built in the Nesbit addition, is
completed.
The Johnnie Tiptons have re¬
turned to their home on Brad¬
ford Hill.
The Rev. Von Crawford, who
conducted services at the Bap¬
tist Church last Sunday will be

Don Bradford completed his
mid-term examinations at Jack¬
sonville State Normal last week
and brought three of his class¬
mates home with him for a week
end; Karon Nelson, Mack Harri¬
son and Oliver Gabriel, all of
Wedowee, Ala.
The many friends of Mrs. W.
A. McNair (Fola Belle Smith)
regret to learn she broke her
ankle recently. The McNairs
have 9 children who are taking
over the housework while their
mother supervises from her
wheelchair.
Rev. and Mrs. Richard Looney
are attending a Jurisdictional
Conference in Atlanta this
week.
The Home Demonstration
Club installed the following
officers at the January meeting:

Mrs. Herschel Dean, vice-presi
dent; and Bess Cureton, secret
ary and treasurer.
The W. S. C. S. will hold their
regular meeting Thursday night
at the home of the Misses Cure-
ton and Mrs. Stroud.
Mi-, and Mrs. Ed Stowe and
children of Rossville, were the
Sunday guests of the Lunsford
Fricks.
Eddie Castleberry, who under¬
went an emergency operation
at Hutcheson Memorial hospital
last week, is reportedly making
satisfactory progress.
AVANS H. D. CLUB
The Avans Home Demon¬
stration Club met at the home
fo Mrs. Essie Gass on December
19, for their annual Christmas
party. Mrs. Gass’ home was
beautifully decorated for the
occasion.
The meeting was called to
order by Mrs. H. H. Bodenhamer.
The devotion was presented by
Mrs. Elna Grant. Mrs. Verna
Hood read a poem and Christ¬
mas carols were sung by the
group. Several modeled new
clothing; Mrs. Kirtland. a dress
and Mrs. Gass, a skirt.
Mrs. Grace Elliott reported on
the booth the club sponsored at
Davis School Fall Festival. Mrs.
Naomi Lyda asked the ladies to
report on their points as soon
as possible. MJrs. Bodenhamer
appointed a committee to work
on membership. If there are any
of these ladies (Mrs. Essie Gass,
Mrs. Kate Elliott, Mrs. Grace
Elliott, and Mrs. Cecil Gil¬
breath) near you and you would
like to join the club please see
them. We had 13 members pre¬
sent at this meeting.
Mrs. Kate Elliott, our vice-
president kept the group in
laughter with contests and
games for our social hour. We
had Mrs. Martha Colvard of
Pittsburg, Pa. as a visitor.
Refreshments were served.
