r A G E 4 Football Players Receive Letters The Dade County High School Cafetorium was filled when the Football players, managers, cheerleaders and patrons of the school attended a Football Ban¬ quet last Saturday night. This was a gala occasion with every¬ one dressed in their best and in a festive mood. Shool Board Chairman C. E. Kyzer acted as Toastmaster of ■the evening. Rev. J. O. Stewart, pastor of the Morganville, Slygo and Hooker Methodist Churches gave the Invocation and Rev. Thomas W. Schild, pastor of the Piney Grove Baptist Church gave the Benediction. Afer a dinner, served by the F. H. A. girls, members of the football squad and their mana¬ gers were presented their letters and awards by Coaches Donald Payne and Philip Smith and Principal D. O. Chumley. The cheerleaders also received letters which were presented by Mrs. Ellen Marie Moore. Coach Payne introduced Jim Glover, Coach of the Etowah County High School in Atalla, Ala., who was the speaker of the evening. Coach Glover spoke of the benefits to yountg people of a good athletic program in the school. Playing on a team, he said develops sportsmanship and fair play and it builds char¬ acter. The older students who have developed these special qualities set a good example to the younger children and give them someone to look up to and follow: Supt. of Schools Roy W. Moore recognized several of the school board members, school princi¬ pals, county officials and other guests who were present. In in¬ troducing Mr. A. L. Dyer, he asked that Mr. Dyer tell a little about the improvement program now going on at the school. Mr. Dyer, who is chairman of the Improvement Club which is undertaking this program, spoke of how the different improve¬ ments have been divided to be completed as the money comes in. First is to grade and beautify the school grounds. This project is expected to toe completed in a few days and includes the new road and the grading of the grounds for better drainage. The second step is the fencing of the ball field and recreation area and the third step is the seating arrangements at the football field. It is hoped, he said, that steps two and three will be com- When Your Money is in the Bank It s . . , Money deposited in the Bank of Dade is protected by the F. D. I. C. up to $10,000.00. Pledges Beginning to Come In Work is about completed on the grading and draining of the Dade County High School Campus, it was reported at a meeting of the Improvement Club held last week. Work on this first part of the improve¬ ments to toe made at the schools has been moving fast in spite of the bad weather. Also reported at this meeting was that a $1700.00 bond is available at the Supt. of School’s office for use on the building of a gym. This is the mony raised previously for a gym. No local money went into the present gym basemet which is reinforc¬ ed with steel. This was built with money received from the insurance company which the old gym burned in 1951. Because not enough money was raised at that time to complete a new gym, this money, which will now have several year’s interest, is still available for a gym. The committees on raising money for these school im¬ provement projects reported they had about $12,000.00 al¬ ready pledged. However they had not been able to contact all the captains for their reports. Is your name on this list? This will toe built on the present foundation and will be approximately 100 x 100 feet. He said close to $20,000 of the $80,000 needed for the program has already been subscribed. With Toastmaster Kyzer re¬ minding all present that every¬ one is to have a part in this im¬ provement program, a very pleasant evening came to an end.
