PAGE 4 News From Morganville & Slygo There are many things Stir¬ ling in these communities, as the end of our school year is at hand and the year end for the Methodist churches, however everyone seems to feel that all will end well and that no one will be lost from the shuffles. . . The church attendance at our Morganville church was greatly increased and we were happy to have Mrs. Hanna visiting with us, Mrs. Hanna is the mother of Mrs. Nelson Gothard and she is visiting with the Gothard’s this week. . . We are wondering what happened at the Lehman Shelton’s home as we missed the entire family Sunday. . . We were so proud to see the Ed Wilkies all back together in worship Sunday and it’s so nice to know that Mrs. Wilkie is feeling so much bet¬ ter . . . Mrs. Walter Smith is feeling better and seems to be much improved since her major operation . . . Mr. Joe Rogers and family spent the week end visiting Mr. Rogers’ mother and family and they attended the Memorial Services at the Whiton Church . . . Mr. Rogers’ father is buried there . . . Granny and Grandpa Oliver are doing their bits towards making the community a prod¬ uctive place, as Grandpa Oliver lias tomato blooms and it won’t be too long until there will be the fruit . . . first the vine and then the fruit Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hamlin and their daughter Thelma Hixon visited relatives in Alabama this week end. . . We are pleased to note that Mrs. Lucille Word was the irepresentative from Chattan¬ ooga attending the American Dental Association in Nashville this week. . . Mrs. Word is a Dental Technician . . . .for Dr. Carl Steele, Jr. The North Dade School will Jhave their final Graduation Services Saturday, May 30, 1959 at 7:30 p. m. ... Children’s day will be obser¬ ved in the Morganville and Slygo Churches Sunday May 24, 1959 . . . everyone is invited to see the progress our children have made in the past year. . . SLYGO The dinner at the Slygo Com¬ munity house was a real success Sunday and the crowd was a very large one and there was much fellowship and good food. Mr. and Mrs. Brad Gross had as their guest. Mr. Gross’ sister Mrs. Brown from Chattanooga and there were some of her fri¬ ends from the St. Mark’s Met¬ hodist church visiting . . . All seems to be going well in the Slygo Valley as all the sick are about to make a complete recovery . . . Mrs. Joe Doyle is greatly improved and will re¬ turn to her home this week . . . Mr. and Mrs. Felt Moore were happily surprised Sunday morn¬ ing when they heard a rap on the door and opening it found Bruce Moore, their son from Los Angeles, Calif . . . Bruce hasn’t been home in two years and you should have seen the mother and father what a won¬ derful expression of welcome they had on their faces. . . We are happy for Mr. and Mrs. Moore. . . .Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Cureton had Tommy and Dale Cureton from Chattanooga as their week end guests and we were proud to have them in. our Slygo worship services Sun¬ day ... He was born and reared in Dade County at Clover dale and a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. P. G. Bible. Burial was in Mackinac Island, Mich. Sur¬ vivors: wife Mildred; one bro¬ ther, Charlie Bible of Rising 5 sisters, Minnie Phillips Chattanooga, Mamie Mize of N. C., Jennie Camp¬ of Bremen, Ga., Susie of Hawthorne, Fla. and Kenneedy of Tallahassee, Church . . Mr. Frank has been very sick at home in Slygo, however Frank was feeling much better and attended the church services, but was unable to eat the regular dinner and when Frank can’t eat . . . well John Cureton says he is sick and that the writer will agree. . for Frank likes to eat ... we are proud to see Mr. and Mrs. Will Cureton in our services and news is that Mrs. Will Cureton can play the piano . . . well we will see more about that later. . . . Little Billy Sims was the center of attraction at the Sunday dinner, as he is a friend to all who will walk him. . . . Billy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sims. . . Club Plans Clean-up Drive The Avans Home Demonstra¬ tion Club met May 15 at the home of Mrs. Grace Elliott with Mrs. H. H. Bodenhamer presid¬ ing. For the devotional Mrs. Sadie Kirtland read the scrip¬ ture with Mrs. Mary Elliott leading in prayer. Mrs. Kate Elliott planned a splendid program which was en joyed by the group. The theme was “Tributes to Mother’’. Mrs. Irene Bodenhamer sang a solo with Mrs. Grace Elliott at the piano. During the business meeting Mrs. Bodenhamer gave a report of the recent council meeting held at the Morganville Method ist Church. Mrs. Grace Elliott re ported some comments made about the work we did National Home Demonstration week and expressed her ation ip having a part in dist¬ ributing corsages made by club to the mothers of Wood- lawn and Sand Mountain Met¬ hodist churches. A community drive to trash from road sides was dis¬ cussed. Also to paint up mail boxes and plant beds near same. We were to have Mrs. Ruth Gross with us.
