Wool and lamb producers of
Dade County will vote during
the entire month of September
to determine their approval or
disapproval of an agreement
with the American Sheep Prod¬
ucers Council, Inc.
The agreement would con¬
tinue the financing of the Coun
oil’s advertising, promotional,
and related market develop¬
ment activities on lamb and
wool through deductions from
wool payments for three more
years, as authorized in last sum¬
mer's extension of the National
Wool Act.
The new agreement provides
for a continuation of

(from incentive payments on
unshorn wool and from pay¬
ments on unshorn lambs made
to -producers under the National
Wool Act for the 1959, I960, and
1961 marketing years.
Under the original agreement,
deductions have been made
from payments at the rate of 1
cent per pound for shorn wool
and 5 cents per hunderweight
for lambs. Under the new agree¬
ments, the deductions cannot
exceed these rates. The funds
obtained from the deductions
from wool program payments
will be used as * in the past to
finance activites of the Council
to enlarge or improve the mar¬
ket for products of the industry.
In any event, the agreement will
not be put into effect unless ap¬
proved by producers owning
two-third of the sheep and
lambs represented by votes In
the referendum.
All producers who have owned
sheep or lambs, 6 months of age
or older, for any one period of
at least 30 days since Jan. 1,
1959 will be eligible to vote.
Each producer will report the
number of sheep and lambs on
his ballot.
If voting in the referendum
indicates that producers do not
favor the agreement, no deduc¬
tions will be made from pay¬
ments for the 1959, 1960, and
1961 marketing years. In that
event, whatever funds remain
from the deductions under the
agreement of March 17, 1955
will be used by the Council until
expended
