SERVING WITH NAVY
Quartermaster Seaman Ap¬
prentice Therel D. Fulghum, 18,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ful¬
ghum of Lookout Mountain, en¬
tered the Navy on January 19,
1959.
A 1958 graduate of Dade
County High School, Therel
completed nine weeks of boot
training at Great Lakes, Illinois
and was transferred to Newport,
R. I. on April 17 for five weeks
of Quartermaster school.
He now serves aboard the USS
Eugene A. Greene, D. D. R.,
whose home port is Charleston,
South Carolina.

IN OPERATION SADDLE UP
—Marine Pvt. James M. Huffs-
tutler, son of Mr. and Mrs.
James L. Huffstutler of Route
2, Trenton, Ga., participated in
the South East Asia Treaty Or¬
ganization exercise “Saddle UP”
in British North Borneo in June
while serving with the Third
Marine Division.
Co-sponsored by the United
States and the United Kingdom,
“Saddle UP” involved units of
the U. S. Seventh Fleet, and
army and navy units of the
United Kingdom, Australia, and
New Zealand.
In the operation, Marines “hit
the beach’ in landing craft and
amphibious tractors, as well as
in helicopters in the new verti¬
cal envelopment concept of war¬
fare.
Purpose of the amphibious
training exercise was to promote
a closer working relationship

TRAINING
—Army Pvt. Alvis E. Green,
whose wife, Geraldine, lives on
Rt, 2, Trneton, Ga, has complet¬
ed advanced individual training
July 11 with the 2nd Armored
Division at Fort Hood, Tex.
Green entered the Army last
February and was stationed at
Fort Jackson, S. C., before ar¬
riving at Fort Hood
Before entering the Army, the
20-year-old soldier was employ¬
ed by the Peerless Woolen Mills,
Rossville. His parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Beston Green, live on Rt.
1, Rossville.
FLAT ROCK MEN
TRAIN TOGETHER
—Two soldiers from Flat Rock,
Ala., privates Maxwell H. Stone
and Elbert H. Lyda, have basic
engineer training at Fort Bel-
viour, Va.
They received instruction in
map reading, bridge, road and
airfield construction, and mine
warfare.
The men entered the Army last
April and completed basic train¬
ing at Fort Jackson, S. C.
Stone, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John W. Stone, is a 1954 gradu¬
ate of Pisgah High School and
was employed by Combustion
Engineering, Inc., in Chattan¬
ooga, Tenn., before entering the
Army.
Lyda, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Elbert L. Lyda, is a 1955 gradu¬
ate of Pisgah High School and
was employed by Combustion
Engineering, Inc., in Chattan¬
ooga, Tenn., before entering the
Army.
Buchanan’s Unusual Home Atop Lovely Hill
is a Dreamlike “Wilderness Retreat”

A beautiful home atop a gen-
fly rounded hill with one of the
most beautiful views in the val-
ley make the Chester Buch-
anans most eager to move into
their new domicile.
Burned out earlier this year
the Buchanans rebuilt on the
original site near Trenton, over¬
looking rolling fields, the slopes
of Sand Mountain and the busy
highway. The house is reached
by a rustic, winding lane which
leads visitors perilously close to
a large pond which mirrors the
steep naked sides of a nearby
hill.
With an exterior of red bark-
tex brick, the dwelling encloses

lighting fixture will illuminate
the remainder of the room.

less steel built-in stove units,
wall oven and hood, and the
other to the den, also pine panel
led. The den opens onto a rear
patio which is being laid with
white marble slabs. The floors
of both the kitchen and den will
be tiled with gold metallic chip
vinyl.
The bedrooms are distinguish¬
ed by high awning-tyipe win¬
dows and are painted french
green, dogwood pink and drift¬
wood gray. Closets in all bed¬
rooms are cedar-lined, some
with sliding doors. The bath
connecting the green bedroom,
which is to be Ruth Ann’s is
tiled with pale gray marbelized
wainscoting and plumbed with
irouge fixtures, while the bath
opening off the hall has been
