‘60 CONSERVATION reserve
Contracts under the Conser- 1
vation Reserve may run for as
long as 10 years. During the
time of the contract, the farmer
will receive an annual rental
payment on the reserved land
for the life of the contract, and
he also will receive cost-sharing
help in establishing approved
conservation practice.
For Georgia, the basic per-
acre rate of payment under the
1960 Conservation Reserve is
$12.00, the same as under the
1959 program. The tentative
acreage goal for the State is
133,000 acres, subject to consi¬
deration and recommendation
by the State ASC Committee.
Farmers who applied for but
could not be offered Conserva¬
tion Reserve contracts in 1959
because of a lack of funds will
be given first consideration for
contracts under the 1960 pro¬
gram if they are otherwise

Glenn-ings
After a few months, Gizzard
left the newspaper to seek his
fortune elsewhere, because he
could see no future in it.
But we won’t give up so easily
because we do see a future in
this newspaper and in Dade
County. About the only thing
we see that’s wrong with the
future—-its getting shorter.
