OPERATION CARP
{Continued From Page 1)
"We have to think in terms of
what can be done under present
circumstances,” he said. ‘‘There
js clearing out rough fish and
teplacng them with game fish.
But every situation has its own
solution.”
He and Mr. Baker had spent
most of Friday walking the creek
and discussing the various as¬
pects of the project.
Mr. Zeller pointed out that
the first dam from the Tenn¬
essee River ‘‘was not an effective
barrier against the entry of
carp, the original entry point.
We can kill out gjl the carp and
without modifying the dam,
which is costly, the carp will
again infest the creek in a few
years.”
Mr. Zeller warned membe r s
that to attempt a creek-wide
kill of rough fish, would also
kill out all of the game fish, sev¬
eral of which, including the
rock bass, are irreplaceable.
His recommendations:
1. Conduct a population study
of the c r eek.
2. Kill out “'beds” of carp by
spot treatment.
3. Call on Fulton Lovell, Dir¬
ector of the Commission, to
make intentions known and to
seek assistance.
From the more than 20 pre¬
sent, Mr. Fricks named this
committee to call on Mr. Lovell,
afte,- Mr. Zeller’s recommenda¬
tions were adopted:
Mr. Maddox Hale, Col. D. E.
Morrison, Mr. Bernard Doyle,
Mr. John Tatum, Mr. Woodrow
l’mke,- and himself.
