Lofty, whose wife, Eloise, lives on Route 2, iTrenton, recently participated with the 8th Infantry Division’s 28th Artillery in annual training tests in Germany. The tests were designed to determine the effectiveness of the artillery under realistic combat conditions. The 8th In¬ fantry Division is a major ele¬ ment of the NATO shield of fense in Europe. A mail clerk in the trtillery’s Battery C in Bumholder, Lofty entered the Army in May 1958, completed basic training at Fort Chaffee, Ark., and arrived over¬ seas last April. The 24-year-old soldier is the eon of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond N. Lofty, Route 2, Flat Rock, Ala. The U. S. Air Force recruiting service in Chattanooga an¬ nounced today it has vacancies 1 or enlistment under the ‘ Buddy System” during Decem¬ ber for all career fields. T/Sgt. Harry C. Sheldon, Air Force recruiter for this area, said this permits two or more buddies to enlist together and to remain together during basic itraining at Lackland AFB, Taxas. Sergeant Sheldon said per¬ sons enlisting under this pro¬ gram will know' before enlist¬ ing the career field they are en¬ listing for. Quarterback Club Plans Shoot for Turkeys and Hams ‘in the rough ’ The Davis High School Quarterback Club has given the popular ham and turkey shoot event a new twist. Saturday, from 9 a. m. you may shoot for a turkey or the combination of two hams, two shoulders, pork loin, sausage, ,liver, ets.— all in the live pack¬ age of a 100- pound pig. Shells willbe furnished for 25 cents each and shots for the turkey will be $1, for the big, ;$2.00. The public is invited to parti¬ cipate.
