Herty when he was a school boy in Milledgeville. went to Waycrafcs Tuesday to join in the tribute to Dr. Herty. which was held Wednes day during the Slash Pine Festival. Mrs. Ferguscn introduced Dr. Herty to the audience. Wedel, National Secre tary of College work in the Episco pal churck, of New York city, spent Tuesday and Wednesday in the city. Dr. Wedel spoke at G. M. C. and . S. C. W. He is a most enter taining speaker and is spending some time in the south. Dr. Wedel was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Bone. ; presented most impressive- Col. Joe Muldrow, who served tne war with Mr. McWhorter, pre sented the speaker. He introduced him as one who saw action and plenty of it and had stamped him self as a hero. The speaker said until greed am selfishness disappears from the earth there will be no end to war. He said the Legion stood for peace, but in sisted that the country be prepared He ;.lso urged that profit be taken out of war. He oaid tribute to the men who served in the world war and these who sacrificed at home to help win the war. At noon Dr. and Mrs. Binion enter- tafned the past commanders of the Morris-Little unit and their wives at a luncheon. Mr. and Mrs. McWhorter were the honor guests. After the exercises Mr. William I^‘C Harrison entertained at a barbe cue for all cx-servicc men at the .'arm rf Mr. Ralph Simmerson. This occasion was a delightful one and the men gathered to enjoy the priviK ges of peace and happiness again. Later in the evening a dance was riven at the country club. The following was the Armistice program: Selection—G. M. C. Band. Invocation—Rev R. W. Oakcy. In Flanders Field—Mrs. Helen Maxwell Longino. Memorial Pageant—Directed Mrs. Jere Moore, assisted by Miss Maggie Jenkins at the organ. Columbia—Mrs. Dawson Allen France—Mrs. Marcelle Ennis. Red Cross Nurse—Miss Florence Moran. CHURCH Sunday School services will be held at 10:30 at the Hardwick Chris tian church. There will be no preach ing service. J. L. Sibley. and Fatty NEGRO CONFERENCE TO CONVENE HERE NEXT WEEK The Central Georgia C. M. E. con ference will convene in this city next Wednesday November 20th, with the local church as host. Rev. Fred Griggs, the pastor, and the members of his congregation will entertain the visiting preachers and laymen. Bishop John Wesley McKinney will preside during the conference.
