hundred years old. It was planted by
members of his fathers family. Mr.
Torrance believes in his county and
works for its interest and advance
ment He has a wi* ? circle of friends.
Geo. G. Crawford, the steel and
iron Magnate, who died in Birming
ham, Ala., Friday, March 20th, is
well rembered here by a number
of our older citizens. The foundation
of the education which led him to
success and fame in his vocation,
was laid at the Georgia Military
College in this city. In his youth he
was a cadet at G. M. C from
which institution he graduated in the
class of 1887 or 1888. He then studi
ed at the Technological School in At
lanta and after finishing there he
studied in Germany. His rise was
rapid, and he became the head of
great corporation, and a leader in th
steel and iron industry, l^ose wh
recall the days when he was a cade
at G. M. C. remember him as .
maidy and studious youth, who wa
faithful in the performance of ever

the highest esteem by the member
of the faculty and his fellow cadeU
