Present, Aldermen Read, Hooper, Smith,
Andrews, Lewis, Ware, Davis, Allen, Cnip
ley, Brooks, and Hodges.
On motion, Alderman Ware was called to
the chair as Mayor pro tern.
Council then proceeded to the election of
Mayor pro tern, to preside during the ab
sence ol his Honor J. S. Calhoun, which re
sulted in the election of Alderman Read.
By Alderman Chipley: Resolved, That
the Hospital committee be authorised to pur
chase a sufficient number of cots and malms
see, and other articles for the use of the sick
in the Hospital.
By Alderman Chipley: Resolved, That a
special committee he appointed, to ascertain
the proha hie cost of bringing water into the
city through t ie medium of wo den pipes :
Whereupon AlJermen Chipley, Ware, and
Smith, were appointed as that committee.
By Alderman Allen: Resolved, That his
Honor the Mayor be authorised to draw his
warrant on the Treasurer, in favor of Wells
and John Godwin, lor one thousand dollars, ii
being the balance due them for erecting a
pier to the bridge.
An account in favor of Mr. S. It. Bonner,
as agent for Mr. James L. Beck, for negro
hire, $75, was referred to the committee on
accounts. •
Bv Alderman Lewis: Resolved, That the
Mayor, or Mayor pro tern., be authorised to
to have the pumps pul in good order, forth
with, anJ kept so by the year; that he pay
for such as have been repaired when he is
satisfied with the work.
Council then adjourned until its regular
meeting, the 2d day of June next, at 3 o’clock
P. M.

TWENTY DOLLARS REWARD.
RAN A WAY from the subscriber, near Talbotton,
Ga., on the night of the 26:h inst.. a negro man
by the name of JACK, about 30 years of age, about 5
feet 5 or 8 inches high, chunky, well built, and rather
lig.'it complectioned—neither black nor yellow. He is
well dressed, has a gray cloth overcoat, and wore away
a fur cap. I suppose him lo be in the vicinity of Co
iurnbus. as I purchased him of Mr. Hungerford, of that
place. He may perhaps he carried off bv some white
peison, if so L will give 8100 reward for the detection
of any white person in whose poss ssion he may be
found. The only reason, however, for a suspicion of
that kind is, that he left without any known cause. I
will give twenty dollars reward for the delivery of the
said negro to me, cr lodged in any jail so that t yet him.
