Yes th ru wi't sit by silver streams.
While round thee play the bn-e e> soft,
And sheltered from the noontide beams
Bv f liaire green that waves aloft.
Thu-' shall onj iv the fountains bright,
That vield their freshness to the air,
And h 'Utifu! will be the sight
Os nature’s flmverv aspect there.
And thou wilt see the blosom" blow
In glossy vales tha eal uly sleep;
Italia’s rn mn will deenlv glow,
And ’er the rest her vigils keep.
There r -1 rant rivers as 'he ■ (low

Th ivrtlc ind 'll vine may grow,
Ad all their loveliites* unfold
But wilt thou find a tranquil homo,
Amid the vello.v orange bowers?
Dream’st th"U of purer bliss to come,
While roaming that world of flowers?
Wilt break the golden links that bind
Thv heart to his, once dearly prized,
And leave those infant charms behind,
Which thou hast ever idolised?
Bewate—beware the fatal stings

Her s '’eels with liberal hand she flings
But poison mingles with the showers

The Par art p ' >t. —Of the origin of
the name “ Forget me not ” (Myosotis,)
I)r. Joh iso i, oi Jiis “Flora of Berwick'
upo.i-Tweed” gives the follow ttg account
extracted from Mill’s II story of Clnvalrv,
an 1 communicated to that work by Dr.
A. F. Thompson;—
“Two lovers were loitering on the mar
gin of a lake on a fine summer’s evening,
when the maiden espied some of the flow
ers of Vfyosotis growing on the water
close to the Drink of an island at some dis
tance from the shore. She expressed a
desire to possess them, when the knight,
in the true spirit of chivalry, plunged into
the water, and swimming to ihe spot,
cropped the wished for plant; hut his
sire ujth was unable to fulfil the object of
his achievement, and feebng that he could
not regain the shore, although very near
it, he threw the flow rs upon the hank,
and easting a last affectionate look upon
hi* lady-love, cried ‘Forget me not!” and
was huned in the waters. As the world
insists niton a reason, tins story is as good
as another, but the worthy knight must
have been sadlv out of his element not to
h ve been able to return from a bank on
wh'ch his mistress could discern so mi
nute a blossom, unless, indeed, we sup
pose him to have been clad in armour,
which was an habiliment ill-adapted for a
lover by land or water.”
Georgetown, (T). (\) Feb 10.
Another of those dangerous blasts, which
have so often threatened destruction to
portions of our town and inhabitants, was
made on Tuesday afternoon, about 3o'
clock from the neighborhood of Congress
street. The fragments of rock flew in al
most severy and rection, and fell in the streets,
which were at the time thronged w ; th pas
sengers, horses, and vehicles. It is a
most miraculous interposition of Provi
de ice that no lives were lost, although one
black man had a very narrow escape; he
Was sitting on the step of the door of a
frame house on Bridge street, recently oc
cupied hy William D int, Tailor, and
which had only been vacated a few days;
a stone weighing 144 pounds struck the
door, bursting >t open and grazing the arm
of the man which it slightly bruized: after
entering the house it glanced side-wavs
until it came against the partition be
tween that and the adjoining house; also a
frame, occupied by Mrs. Clark, Milincr;
the glass doors of her show cases were
shattered to pieces, and the family of course
much alarmed. Ynother frament of the
stone stuck the southeast corner of the
Columbian Gazette Office, which is in a
large doable, three story brick building; it
made ahole in the roof large enough to ad
mit a man, split one of the rafters from the
eaves to the collar-beam, and scattered
the bricks from the tire wall and the slates
into the street below. Another piece
made a similar hole in the roof of Sim
ms’s Tavern, which is opposite the Ga
zette Office. Another demolished the
porch back of the house occupied bv

I in today’s paper, taken from the Wash
ington City Globe, believed to be the organ
of the present Admiuisrationit willbe seen
that a strong suspicion exists of a union
between the nuliliers and Clay party as to
the approaching election of President,
and another article given today, extracted
from the Columbia Times, (a nullifying
journal) reduced that suspicion tocertamtv
by explaining tile cuicumstance of which
tite imlificrscomplniii, and their determin
ation to treat Jackson’s conduct “with
contempt and scorn.” The old man of
\ew-< Means will lose nothing hv the bit
tern ss and opposition of such patriots—
tin ir emuitv is a sure index of his regard
for the country and inflexibility of pur
pose to maintain the Union. Bound In
his oath to support the Constitution, lie
could not without the moral guilt of perju
ry appoint to office under that Constitu
tion men whose avowed purpose is to de
stroy it. The prudence and independence
and patriotism which have dictated this
policy, will still more to the people, and
procure him adherents among those who
have hitherto opposed him. For thenulli
tiers to complain of being denied offices tin
der that. goverment which they threaten
with destruction, is the apex of impu
dence.
Stage Robbery. —We noticed a few
da vs ago the robherv of the Southern stage
near Wiftton, (X. C.) bv which two of the
passengers lost tlie.r trunks. We since
learn hv a communication front Mr. Jus.
Pruden. Post Master at Winton, that four
runaway negroes have since been appre
hended with some of the contents of the
trunks in their possession, and that they
hat e made a full confession oftlie robbery.
Besides articles of wearing apparel, Mr.
Pruden states that checks on New-York

upon them. The property thus recovered
has been placed in the keeping of John

directed to apply. The negroes state
they have burnt and destroyed some of the

They"are lodged in the countv jail at Win

of tune before death, his joints grew to

thus did death in this insensible and terrific
form, creep over hint bv slow degrees; tut
