Tlib swds"maiden's song to the
EAGER.
BT WIILIAM BALL.
Where the craggy upland tow'rs
O'er the g acier bright and high,
Lo, the King-bird! where it soars,
Wheeling through the azure sky!
Speed. O speed thee,
Wild one! heed thee,
To thy rocky covert, hie:
Mountain t-’agle! swiftly fly
Fro't the marksman’s fata! eye,
Mountain Ragle swiftly fly!
Ranger dfthe trackless air!
Fast thy homeward pinion fly,
Or *he proodcs' feather there
Soon shall in the valley lie!
Speed thoe, rover!
Or rot lover
Will thy reckless play espy!
Beauteous Eagle swiftly fly!
Shun the marksman’s fatal eya.
Mountain Eagle swiftly fly!
Ere *he freighted echoes ring,
Nprve tiiose regal plumes of thine;
Or the finest of toy wing,
Hoplcss Ragle, will be mine!
Speed thee! speed thee,
Wild one! heed thee,
To th v rocky covert, hie:
Mountain Ragle! swiftly fly
Fro n the marksman’s fatal eye,
Mountain Ragle! safelv fly!
ELLEN YOU, TOLD ME.
ERen von told e t'other day,
That vou -til'lov’d me dearly;
And 1 have heard your roo’hcr say,
The lip should speak sincerely:
Then ro ne with me and bless my cot,
My eot with wnodbr e shaded,
We'll share alike the oeasant's lot,
Till life and love are sided;
For Ellen you told me t’other day,
That you would love me deaHy;
And I have heard your mother say,
The lip should speak sincerely.
Recall to memory. F.llen dear!
My vow so often plighted—
The kiss that chac'd the pensive tear,
A'd anxious hours rpquited
The laurel grove where first I woo’d—
Th” beach whore once we parted.
When sail’d the ship ’mid bil owe rude,
And left thee sorrow hearted:
For F.llen, you told me t'other day,
Th 't yon would love me dearly;
And I have heard your mother say,
The lip should speak sincerity
