F*r the Democrat. Mr. Editor —l am one of your pat rons who live in a little by corner out of the way place, in the interior oi the coun ty, and very seldom see any other news paper except the Democrat and Enqui rer, and consequently news from the seat of government and the University, is some what stale by .'lie time it reaches me. lint I understand through my only medium of intelligence, that a carl am number of Delegates have been some time since nominated by a select iew of the knowing ones assembled at Athens, to attend a Convention) in Philadelphia some time shortly, ostensibly for the object of ad jus ting our dilierences with our northern and western brethren in regard to the Tariff, j &c. i had scarcely gotteii through the paragraph of information before the fol lowing questions suggested themselves, to be propounded to the gentlemen (dele gates) who appear to be charged with the destiny of Georgia. Ist. By what party, and by how mai _■ electors of my party have you been dele- j gated? 2nd. Do you not know that the Clark or Union party constitute something like a moiety if not a majority of the people of Georgia,—if you please let us know how manv Clark men belong to the del- egation? 3d What are your instructions in case you fail to effect a compromise, what sub jects are then to be discussed, and what “ calculations ,” are to’be made with your self-constituted colleagues from this side the Potomac? v Now for a few questions to the people of Georgia. 1 mean the bouu and sinew of the State, the Plebians. Ist. llow many of you were at the choosing of those Delegates for the Phila delphia Convention? 2nd. Is it not your duty publicly to as semble at your respective court houses S, disavow your agency in this new fashion ed representation? » Fellow-citizens, it is time to shake off your lethargy; you have been dreaming over the inestimable legacy of liberty and equality bequeathed you by your fathers long enough!. Too long have you listen ed to the harangues of lawyers and oth ers attached to the aristocracy of the coun try, who are not insensible that their ag grandisement would lie best promoted by your disfranchisement. Foi my own part t’cilow-citizens, l view the convention at Philadelphia as the old rat did the cat in the meal tub—“lt way be meal,” &c.— now let one (who never before attempted to write a paragraph for a newspaper, & would not now have exposed his feeble abilities, hut for the apparent apathy of those who ought to see to these things) conjure you by the blood of those sainted heroes who gloriously hied and died for liberty, and by all that constitutes you the freest people in this happiest government ■(Under the sun, to he prepared for the storm which lias been gathering since the extra session of the legislature of 1625, and be ready to convince tones’ sons and other disorganizes, that in your veins still runs the uudegenerated blood of {»• From the Washington Globe.
