COMMITTEE OF HEALTH. The indi viilnals named by the Com missioners as a Health Committee, met on Wednesday evening at the cilice of; Dr. Childers and elected Dr. Childers | Chairman, and C. E. I'artlctt Sen e-1 tary. The Town was laid oft’into four dis tricts, and the Committee divided into four Corresponding Hub-Committees, one of whom were appointed to superin tend each of the districts. The Committee resolved to meet weekly for the purpose of receiving the reports of the Sub-Committees, and preparing a general report for publica tion. The last mails bring us the afflicting intelligence that the Asi. tic Scourge has crossed the Atlantic, and is now ra ging in Quebec, Montreal, and several other places in Canada, with a violence unknown in the Eastern Hemisphere- Several eases had also appeared in N. Y’ork, and the greatest alarm prevailed in that city. There can be but faint hope that our other atlanlie cities will not shortly re ceive the infection. The impossibili; v of establishing any sanitory regulations, to interrupt the continual intercourse between our commercal cities, and those which have already been been visited! by tin Cholera, either on this continent ! or in Europe, must he felt by all. VIRGINIA. A convention of delegates from the counties of Albemarle, Amherst. Bruns wick, Caroline, Culpeper, Halifax, lioa isa, Orange and Hpottsylvaniu, anil the j boroughs of Norfolk &. Williamsburg!), anil the town of Lynchburg, opened its ; session at Lynchburgh, Vi), on the 12ilt instant, for the purpose of recommend ing to the people of that state candid ates for the Presidensy and Vice Presi dency. Andrew Jackson and Philip P. Barbour were unani nously chosen, a standing central Committee determin ed on, and hi> address to the people of Virginia adopted. NORTH CAROLINA. A Convention, consisting of about j thirty delegates, met at Raleigh on the ‘ 18th instant, and placed Governor Ire dell ia the Chair, The address and res- I olutions adopted are highly complimen- ! tnry to General Jackson, and leave not a shadow of doubt that the members of the Convention are zealous for his re election and will do their utmost to pro mote if; Suit is equally certain that they will in no event support Van Huron for the Vice Presidency.* They declare him a tariffite, fully ns obnoxious as Mr. Sat* geaat or Mr. Wilkins. They go for principle. Philip P. Barber is their n nnniinous choice. The following is the revolution: ** Resolved : That in conformity with . these sentiments, at)d confiding in Ihe uniform and cilicient support which the principles we advocate have received from PHILIP PENDLETON BAR BOUR, of Virginia, and in the general Integri y anil ability of hi* personal and political character, we nominate and ; recommend him to the support of the; freemen of North Carolina for the next ! Vice President."’ The Raleigh. Star has declared itself for him ; and it is beyond dOnht lie will get the undivided vote ofthe rJiate. The Cholera at New York.. ..We leant that a letter lms been received here, from a gentleman from town, now in Savannah, announcing u late nrmnl of a vessel in that port from Ncw-York, bringing pa-! pers one day later than prev ions dates, which contain the alarming nttd distres- i sing intelligence that the Cholera had made its appearance in that city.—The inhabitants, it is said, were (lying from thr infected part ofthe city in every di rection We have just icueivi and this intcl ligeuce, find lim e no room for particular . .1 lot:i n Advertiser. j From the IVashington dole. Tim Teh graph had as well attempt to prove that there is no such thing as a sun in the heavens, or that personal identity is si dream of imagination A letter has been received by a com i mercial house in New York from Havre, dated the !Oth ult. in which it is stated that intriligercc had just reached thatci tv. nrinouiiciiig ihe death of the voting Hake de Rcichstadt. The Paris journals ot ihe latest dates pronounce him to be re-* covering from his iiiticsr. Mr. Clayton said reeecentlv in a speech against the Tariff, that he was the owner oi the only cotton manufactory in Gcor gia. and that he had doubled a capital of .$30,000 in two years.
