no labored argument to prove that it is
essential to the prosperity and happi
ness of individuals ai.d nations. -It is
the bondmaid of religion, anti the bul
wark of civil and religious freedom.
Experience and observation abundantly
prove, that other things being equal, that
community is the most happy, virtuous
and respectable the inasß_ of vvbos. in
hnktutnls embraces thegreatest amount
of intelligence. And there is no way ofi
obtaining various and interesting infor
mation so t heap as by taking a newspa
per Those who have not the means to
obtain, nor the time to peruse large
volumes, may, at an expense of less than

paper, by its regular arrival, keeps up
pleasing and healthful excitement of

cupied by Gen. Howard. It has undergone a
thorough course of repairs and is now open tor
the reception of Boarders and transient custom
ers
The subscribers pledge themselves that tho
most unremitting exertions shall ho made to
render the stay ol those who may call upon them
agreeable. And w hile (bey would return their
sincere thanks to a generous public for the very
liberal patronage already bestowed, they would
respectfully solicit a eoutinuaned*of similar fa
vors.
Their house is situated in a healthy part of
the town and near the centre of business. Their
house shall at a'l times he supplied with the best
the market affords, and their charges shall ho
moderate. Their stables are large, well supplied
and faithfully attended by an excellent Ostler.
They have also lots for the accommodation of
drovers. The Proprietors ofthe Northern and
Southern lines of Stages have selected this
house as tlieii general Stage office, whore seats
can be daily taken for Washington City A New
York, Mobile &New-< irleans.
