The following exquisite linw were written by ft venera
ble and most excellent Jady to her husband, a husband
every way worthy of the love so truthfully and so beauti
fully expressed. Our readers will, we ate sure, feel with as,
that, it the wasting touch of time has dimmed the outward
lineament-', it has not tarnished the freshness or diminished
the warmth of the heart within, but has left it young, genial,
glowing, ns in the morning prime of life. It is proper to
add, that the linos were written with no intention or expee- i
tation of being publish? and:

The TaUsmau.
Tho* all hath changed since fir t we met,
Lore's golden hours have roiled along,
His Talisman-is with us yet,
If not so bright, yet still as strong.
Tho time hath changed life’s vivid hue,
And stripped our path of vernal flowers,
Yet love can gild tho aombre view,
And smile upon the passing hours.
Hail, wedded love, thy magic spell
By genuine truth hath bound us fast;
We would not for a diadem
Exchange the memory of the past.
True, we have seen life’s sunny ray
Eclipsed by many a fitful gloom,
But light hath beamed on that bright day
That knows no change beyond the tomb.
Love o’er the noiseless wave of time
Hath nearly borne us to that shore
Where mortal bliss becomes divine,
And hearts are bound forevermore.
Full soon we’ll hail the joyful sight
Os Love matured in heavenly bowers,
When one eternal day of light
Shall beam on Eden’s deathless flowers.
Arrival of Santa Anna.—Departuregfor Mexico.
The British West India Mail steamer “Avon,”
on the 27th inst., brought among the passengers,
General Santa Anna, suite, lady, and daughter,
under tho escort of several delegations from
the states of Mexico, who were commissioned
to invite his return, to take the helm of state
for the third, and last period—one that is to be
fraught with new things , and good things- for
the diffusion of civil and religious knowledge—
and inevitably, by involution of American in
terests and American principles, which must
put their stamp upon this race, for their social
and political salvation. The General was treat
ed with a good deal of attention during the de
tention of the steamer in this port, and appear
ed in good health and mental tone, to wrestle
with a fast coming fate, when he left, the even
ing of the 28th. The authorities were not back
ward ii showing that they were deeply interes
ted in toward events, and the public. Govern
ment journals, shadow their feelings in the for
ward manner of annunciation of the arrival,
and the prospective destiny of tho Mexi
can Republic—endeavoring to create a return
sympathy unnatural and unreal, and impossible
of existence between the sons and daught L ‘ rl s of
Despotism and Freedom—the first
the land, with the sword and shame,
soils the escutheon of Spain.
