At the residence of Mark Johnston, Esq., in Hancock

In the dispensation of an All-wise Providence which ear

care, many a*heart mourns. Her strong intellect had availed
itself of the unusually favorable opportunities of cultivation it
had enjoyed, and was well store*) with the treasures of use

her amiable deportment imparted to Iter society a charm
v. hich cannot be forgotten. True and faithful she was in
every relation ot life, all of w hose duties she was prompt to
perform ; remembering her creator in the’days of her youth.
Religion came
“To w ean her horn the world,
To turn her eye from vanity,
And point to scenes of bliss that never, never die.”
About two years ago she connected herself with the
Methodist church, and her walk and conversation were in
harmony with the precepts oftlie Gospel. Jn the morning
of life the messenger of death appeared, and though her
health and youth and hope
“.Might look like things too glorku’- to decay.”
She failed and died. Yet she knew whom she had trusted.
In the very article of death she praised the Almighty God
w ho was about U destroy Iter, but as site believed to recreate
hei for a better life : and with a smile—oh ! how radiant
ol hope and peace ! she glided to
“The land of purer day
Where lovely things and sweet *
Pass not away.”
