OUR RELATIONS WITH STAIN—TIIE DILLON CASE.
Washington. June 2G,1855.
Since my communication of yesterday I have been ena
bled to obtain some more specific information regarding
tho purport of Mr. Mason’s last despatches to the govern
ment. It appears that the diplomatic correspondence,
which has taken’ place between our Minister at l’aris
and Count Walewcski, hat relation principally to
the unsettled difliculty existing between this country and
Trance in connection with the arrest of M. Dillon,’ the
French Consul at San Francisco. Count Wale week i, it ap
pears, still insists upon the original redress demanded by
diis government—that of saluting with a salvo of one hun
dred guns iho Consul's (lag. The President, Goa. Davis,
and some other membcis of the administration, are oppos
ed to this concession being made, hut Marcy is in favor of
it. Ile (motes in support of his opinion the precedent es
tablished in the instance of the Spanish Consul at New
Orleans, although l confess 1 cannot see much analogy be
tween the two cases. Some warm discussions and alter*
cations have taken place in the Cabinet orftlio subject.
Iron for tho State Road.

the Bark Charles Keen, from Cardiff, Wales, to Messrs.

Corn Falling.—The Montgomery (Ala.) Advertiser of
Tuesday last, says:
“Corn was offered at 80 cents per bushel — and seemed to
go a begging at that. It will soon, we think, he down at
the old Jive and let live price, fifty cents.”

PLATFORM AND PRINCIPLES
OF THE
AMERICAN PARTY,
OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA,
Fussed nt a Meeting held in Macon, on the 23th June,
1855.
Resolved, Ist, That wc ratify and approve of the plat
form of principles, adopted by the late National Council
of the American Party, at Philadelphia.
Resolved, 2d, That the American Party unqualifiedly
condemns, and will ever endeavor to counteract, all eff
ort'', by any sect or parly, to bring about a union of Church
and State, and utterly disclaims any intention to prescribe
a religious lost as a qualification lor office.
Resolved, 3, That as the Naturalization lawshaveboen
so long perverted to the basest purposes; by corrupt politi
cal demagogues, as to cause the foreign element to grow
vi|) to he a dangerous power in pur midst, deciding our po
litical contests as it pleases, there exists an imperative ne
cessity for their radical modification, and stricter enforce
ment. .
Re-otoed, Ith, That we re-affirm the Georgia Platform
of 1850, as indicating the right policy, in the event of the
contingencies therein mentioned; and we hereby pledge
ourselves to stand by and carrry out its principles.
Resolved, sth, Tiiat we unqualifiedly condemn the Ad
ministration of President Pierce, for the appointment of
foreigners to represent our country abroad; for appointing
and retaining free-soilers in office; and e-pecially do we
condemn the President for not removing Gov. Reeder from
office, when it was first known that he had used his offi
cial station both to enable him to speculate in the Indian
Resei vations, and to sustain and carry out the views of the
Free Soil party of Kansas.
Resolved; Gth, ‘l’hat this Council (while repudiating
the policy of allowing, in the of the coun
try, unnaturalized foreigners to vote in the territorial elec
tions,) regards all opposition to the principles of tho Ne
braska Kansas act, in relation to slavery, as hostility to
the copstitutional’rights of the Smith; and all persons who
partake in such opposition as unfit to bo recognized as
members of the, American party.
Resolved, 7th, That we concur in the opinion express
ed in the meeting of our fellow citizens of Columbus, held
on the 26th day ol May, 1855, that the time has arrived
when our fellow citizens should cease from their dissen
sions, and forget the differences which have separated
them; and that a common danger and’eommon enemy
should unite us foi our common defence and safety, and
that we will cheerfully co operato with all who may unite
with us in the endeavor to accomplish so noble and pat
riotic an object.
i Resolved, Bth, That the Western and Atlantic Railroad
was projected and built for the general good of the whole
people ol Georgia: and we .utterly condemn any policy
which has sought, or wired may seek to make it subserv
ient to the interest or purpose of any political party what
ever. x
Resolved, ‘Jtli, 1 hat we are in favor ol the acquisition
of Cuba, whenever it can he accomplished upon fair qnd
honorable grounds, or whenever any European Power
shall seek to make it a point Rom which to assail the rights
and institutions ol any portion ol this country; and that
we st rongly condemn the vacillating policy of the Admin
istration, as calculated, it not designed, to defeat the acqui
sition of that Island.

PRESENTMENTS.
THE Grand Jurors sworn, chosen and selected for the coun
ty of A/mcogeo, for the December Term, 1854, (adjourn
ed to first Jtfondnyin June, 1855) of Muscogee Superior Court,
and the second Panel thereof, beji leave to make the following
Presentments.
We call the attention of the Inferior|Churt to the condition of
the Court House. In consequence of a leak in the Cupola, the
plastering in the upper rooms is becoming damaged—the Pe
tit Jury Boom is in bad condition—tho glazier could be em
ployed to advantage. We also call the attention of the proper
authorities to the broken wall at the step? near the south west
corner of the Court house. YVe recommend to the Cos inty
Court the propriety of having commodious iFire Proof Vaults
erected in the basement of the Court house, lor the safety of
the many valuable Documents, (accumulating in our several
county offices) liable to be destroyed by lire.
We have examined the offices o f the Superior and Inferior
Court Clerks, and take pleasure in stating that they are, in all
respects in order, and give evidence of the efficiency of the
several Clerks. The books and papers of the Clerk of the Su
rior court are tastefully and methodically arranged, showing
many advantageous improvements since D. J. Barber, Esq.,
the present incumbent, has been in office.
We have reason to believe that John Johnson, Esq., has giv
en general satisfaction in the discharge of his important duties.
YVe timi the Roads generally in bad order, not having been
worked upon. The weather has been t'ovorab.e: but incase
of heavy lain?, the roads in many places would become almost
impassable.
The Biidges throughout the coun'ry need repairs—that over
standing Boy CreeK is so much decayed asto oe dangerous to
passengers, and should have immediate attention.
We recommend that the Bridge Contractor be required to
rebuild the Bridge’over IJpatoie Creek heretofore known as
Wall’s Bridge. It has been down for three years past, causing
great inconvenience to many persons in the country.
We ibid the Jail in some respects insecure—the lock of tlie
entrance door is weak—the door requires facing with iron, fas
tened with .-t ‘ong knobs. We recommend that anew door be
placed between theontranee and the top of staircase. YVetiml
the passage window insecure, and recommend the addition of
horizontal bars. There is danger of fire from the stove pipe,
which runs through the wall instead of into the chiuine v . VVe
recommend that the Jail be thoroughly repa’red.
We regret to state, that, so far as we can perceive, no steps
have yet been taken to abate the “shin plus'er” nuisance.
We Wilder our thanks to his Honor E fl. \Y r orrill. for his un
iform courtesy lo the Grand Jury, and particularly for the clear
and concise manner iirwliicli he has given in charge the law to
this bodv. while acting as special Jurors, thereby facilitating
decision and expediting business.
YVe also offer to Jack Brown, Solicitor General, our acknow
ledgements for his active assistance and polite attention lo this
body during its sessions.

Tallapoosa Cos., Ala., Jan. 2, 1852.
Dear Bir: 1 send you this to certify to you that your Ex
tract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla has performed one of
the most wonderful cures on me that has ever been effected on
in n.
I have been afflicted for forty years ’with eruptions on my
legs and feet; in 1818 they got so bad that I iad to go on
crutches, and In 1845 I had one leg amputated above the knee.
In about nine months after my other leg ,broke out in large
catingand running sores from my knee to my foot, and dis
charged a great deal of offensive matter. My groin also broke
out in large biles, which discharged much offensive matter, and
at tne same time my left hand broke out in large running sores
nearly to my elbow.
The misery that l have suffered for the last two years I can
not desciibe to you. 1 was in such agony that I never rested
day or night.
I n October last my son brought me one of your bottle wrap
pers; I read it, and found record of some wonderful cures
performed by your “Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla”
I sent and got two bottles of it, and'commenced taking it. In
two weeks, to my great astonishment, imy sorec ea
sy, and I could sleep all night, a thing I had not done for two
years- YY’hen I had taken six bottles, my sores had nearly all
healed. My sores got well as if by enchantment. I have now
used in all eight bottles ot your “Extract of Yellow Dock and
Sarsaparilla,” and now consider myself well.
1 entreat all of the afficited to try this medicine, for I believe
it will cure any known disease in the world. Lay aside all
prejudice* and just try it, and proclaim |its great worth to
suffering mankind and entreat them to take it, for it will cure
them.
J\ly case is well known in a large portion of South Carolina,
Georgia and Alabama, and it any should doubt the above
cure, I invite them to'call on me, ami I will show them the
sears, i can be found in Tallapoosa County Alabama, one
mile from Stoe’s Ferry.
RENAJAH HUGHES.
The Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla is peculiarly adapted for
females of delicate health, reselling from irregularity of men
strual discharges, and other dieases peculiar to their sex, —
The proprietor has in his possession *f a great number of err
tifieates of cures, perfumed of the above description. We
assure the affFctert, thata bottle’- or two of Dr. Guysotl’s Ex
tract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla will at once regulate
those diffi:ulties and renew the natural energies.

TO THE PATRONS OF
PERRY DAVIS’
YEG ETA BLE PA INK] LLER.
OWING to the large amount of Counterfeit Pain Killo.’ put
up and ■sold as genuine by unprincipled men, we have
been obliged to resort to very expensive nutoutes to protect
ourselves pecuniarily, and the public from great injury, by
buying and using their worthless counterfeits. Tne compar
ative plain and simple style in which our Pain Killer has
beeli put up, has made it very ea- y for those disposed, to im
itate it very successfully, ns far as it; externa’ app arance,
in style of bottle, label, and color of the article; but we need
not say that the compound is a miserable, filthy production,
and calculated to do great injury to those who. might use it
with the confidence they have been accustomed to use the
genuine Pain Killer. Parties whose business it is to counter
feit valuable preparations, do it in such a secret manner, that
It is almost useless to attempt to punish than by legal meas
ures, as it is difficult, and wo migh; say impossible lo bring
the proof home to them.
Considering the great difficulty in protecting ourselves and
the public by prosecuting parties, we have bet. nto a very
great expense in getting up a flintJy executed
STEEL ENGRAVED LABEL,
or our bottles. We aleo attach to our bottles aySfeelsEngra.
ved note of hand, which wo issue as our obligation and the
counterfeit which is held to he forgery Gy the laws ol tho
United states, and which parties will not tlgry attempt to do.
The great expense attending the getltng up and printing of
these labels, will prevent the attempt to counterfoil us s
- to the public that the article they purchase isthe gen
uine Perry Davis’ Pain Killer, manufactured by Perry Davis
& Son, Sole Proprietors,
The Pain Killer will be put up in anew styio of {panel bot
tie,with the words
DAVIS’ VEGETABLE PAIN KILLER,
blown in the Glass. We have discontinued the use of
the 37X cent bottles and i#>w put up only four izes.
viz—l2_J£ cents, 25 cents, 56 cents,and sl, per bottle
Wc have also a very tine Engraving on Stone, for the Box
labels, specifying the- contents of the box, where and by
whom manufactured, &.c. We have also added to our Pam
phetof directions and certificates, a cover beautifully finish
ed, presenting on the first page a very excellent likeness ot
Perry Davis, the original inventor of the Pain Killer, iho
bottle labels, and one label on each box, has also a corn ct
likeness of Perry Davis, which it will be impossible to coun
terfeit successfully.
Wo have been to this expense, that the public might have
perfect confidence that they were getting the genuine article
when they buy a bottle *as above described. To those who
have so long used and proved the merits of our article, we
would say that we shall continue to prepare our I’ain Killer
of the best and purest materials, and that it shall be every
wav worthy of their approbation as a family medicine.
