Steamboat Collision —Eight Lives Lost.
The steamer Gen. McDonald, which sf urted from

May, got up by Mr. Jarrett, of Baltimore, met with a sad
accident .in tliu 1 )elaware river. About 9 o’clock, the
steamer, when off the Lazaretto, came in collision with
the schooner J. Pease, which struck her on the /arhoard

U. S. Troops Joining the Mexican Revolutionists ■
A letter from Brownsville, Texas, in the N. O. Picayune , j
states that Lieut. Duncan, tormerly of the U. S. Army, ,
said to be a tine artillery officer, tutends to oiler his servi- i ‘
ces to the revolutionists, who will doubtless gladly receive j
them. .
It is reported at Brownsville that some eighteen or ,
twenty men have deserted from Ringgold Barracks and j
mined Vidauri. They all belonged to the artillery, and by I
(heir aid Lieut. Duncan will be enabled to organize a re
spectable corps of artillerists. Exciting news from Rey
nosa is hourly expected, and many well informed Mexi
cans do not hesitate to say that Wolfs position is deci
dedly the best, the revolutionists having no leuder, ah j
though superior in numbers.

Riciimon*, Va., July 9tb, 1855.
Messrs; IVm , S. Beers fc Cos., Gents:— Considerations of du
ty to the afflicted alone prompt me to send you this voluntary
testimonial to the great value of “Carter's Spanish Mixture , ’
for that almost incurable disease, Scrofula.
Without being disposed or deeming it necessary to go into
the particulars of the case, I can sav that the astonishing results
that have been p'roduced by the use of that medicine on a
member of my own family, and under my own observation and
superintendence, after the skill of the best physicians had
been exhausted aud ali the usual remedies had failed, fully
justify me in recommending its use to all who may be suffer
ing from that dreadful malady.
1 do not mean to say that it is adapted to all constitutions,or
that it will afford the same relief in all cases; for, es course, I
know nothing about that—but from what I have seenoftheef
fects, 1 would not hesitate to use it, in any and every case of
Bcrotula, with persons for whom I felt an interest, or over
whom 1 could exercise influence or control.
Very respecttully,
JOHN M. BOTTS.
