This article from the Romney Intelligencer has been
very extensively copied into the- newspapers, boih North

Vitter section as evidence of “the lmllowuess of.Hard

We are authorised to say, that so far as the story re
lates to Mr. Rogers it is entirely destitute of truth. ’ The
only application made to Mr. R. was by Mr. Smith, of
the firm .t Smith <fc Haven Esq--., who asked Mr. R.
whether he would assist him in the case his (Mr. R.’s)
Services were wanted. To which Mr. Rogers replied

Hunker Hill. —A A ankee gentleman, convoying a
British gentleman around to view the different objects of
attraction in the city of Boston, brought him to Bunker
Hid. They stood luoking at the splendid shaft, when the
Yankee said :
“ This is the spot where Warren fell.”
“Ah !” replied the Englishman, evidently not posted up
in hosforie.nl matters, “did it hurt him much ?”
The native looked, at him with the expression of four

“Hurt him 1” exclaimed he, “he \yas killed, sir )“
“Ah, lm was !” said the stranger, slid eyeing the mon

Denmark and the United States, —The Paris corres
pondent of the Augsburg Gazette says that Denmark is
endeavoring to get France to aid her in her dispute with
the United Stutes concerning the Sound dues. France
wishes the dues abolished, but is not willing to allow the
United States to interfere wiili the affairs of Europe. It
refuses any aid, however, till Denmark joins the Western
Powers against Russia. Denmark, it is probable, will
not he caught in any such trap.

We find the following in the Newport Times of Wed

New Port Council,
Saturday Evening, August 25, 1855.
At a meeting of the Council held this evening, the fol

Whereas, the Know Nothings may have been organized
through patriotic motives; but the present workings of the
Order is antagonistic of all such motives;and whereas.some
■of the tenets of the order are endorsed by many of our fel
low citizens, and many wholesome principles are set lorth
in the Platform of the Philadelphia Council, which are
contradictory of the inside workings; and whereas, we be
lieve that tbe organization, as manifested by its Ritual, is
anti-republican and calculated to engender Political dis
honesty: ‘Therefore be it
Resolvod, By New Port Council, Florida, That this

and was completely restored to health by the use ot Liver
Pills alone. These Pills unquestionably possess great ton
ic properties, and cau be taken with advantage for many ‘
diseases requiring invigorating remedies; but the Liver Pills \
stand pre-eminent as a means of restoring a disorganized I
Liver healthy action; hence the great celebrity they !
have attained. The numerous formidable diseases arisiug ,
from a diseased Liver, which so long oafifed the skill of ;
the most eminent, physicians ot the United States, are now (
reudered easy of cure, thanks to the study and ‘persever- j
of the distinguished physician Whose name this great tiled- ‘
ieine hears—a name which will descend to posterity as one
deserving of gratitude. This invaluable medicine should .
always bo kept within reach; and on the appearance of
the symptoms of diseased Liver, it can be safely
and usefully administered.
Purchasers will please be careful to ask for Dr. M'Lane’s
