The Wilkinson County News IRWINTON. GIORGIA. A. K. SMITH Editor and Publisher .wi o. HUBBARD Found-y and „ Editor. ——*l Or gar Wilkinson Ct mt;i. Entered at the Post Office at Irwinton, the Act of Congress of March 3rd.. 1879. as second class mail m^ - «er. Subscription: One Dollar per Year Pay ble in Advance THE LEGAL ADVERTISEMENTS The Bulletin has been designated as the official or gan of the county and will publish the legal advertise ihents for the year 1926. This change from The News to The Bulletin was in accordance with the precedent estab lished by Hon. J. H. Butler and Hon. A. S. Boone this year when they designated The News as the offical organ. It is the intention of these gentlemen as long as they re main in office to alternate the legal advertisements with the two papers, and they should be commended for posi tion in the matter. The News feels that it is nothing but fair to alternate the legal advertisements with the two papers as this is the custom that prevails in every county of the State where, there is two newspapers. County news papers are quasi public institutions in any county, and the legal advertisements should be alternated with the two papers regardless of the political attitude of the pa pers or the editors thereof. In order to equalize the legal advertisements the county contracted with The News to publish the Board of Commissioners of Roads and Revenues report of the disbursements of the county for the year 1926. Tey did this because their monthly report was pub lished in The Bulletin this year. It is the intention of the public officials of the county, as we understand the pro- GEORGI A—Wilkinson. These gentlemen rae to be commended for their atti tude of fairness in this and all other matters in perform ing the functions of their office in which the laws vest in them a discretion. In last weeks issue of The, Bulletin there appeared an editorial on the quality and value of the Kaolin and Bauxite of Wilkinson County,' and the editor estimates its value to be six hundred million dollars. We areno authority on this subject, but if our re,col has estimated that there is enough Kaolin and Bauxite in Wilkinson County alone to supply the whole world, at the present rate of consumption, for six hundred years, and that the value of these clays at the present market value is thirty billion dollars. Quite a difference in the two es timates! If the estimate of those who are in position to be considered an authority on this question is correct, ther we are the richest county in the State of Georgia in clays. This undeveloped wealth has beep lying in our midst so: centuries, and its value unknown to its owners. For the past recent years its value has been ascertained, and the Central of Georgia Railroad Co., is spending thousand oi dollars each year now in advertiseing these valuable clays to those who are interested in them. Through its effort several manufacturing interprises have already been es more will come here in the future. This almost inexhaustable supply of clays should be developed during the life time of the present generation and the profits resulting therefrom enjoyed while we arc still living. We predict that when the representatives of the National Ceramic Society meets here in February, monthly and they investigate our clays that more industrial enter prises will locate hejre to develop these clays. Ir. adver tiseing the clays, however of the county lets : sot under estimate the quality and value thereof. No phase of dairying tail poultry raising will be over- footed which bears upon putting mor- dollars in ( the farmer’s pockets. Since the indi | vidua! farmer cannot determine the market price himself, it is u: to him to increase his profit and to lower his costs, and this is what the, Institute of Animal Economics ' will work hand-in glove with him to accomplish. “Dairying is the logical industry of the Southern farmer", says Janies E. Larrowe, widely known engineer and president of the large manufac turing concern whose donations made the, Institute possobie, in explaining why the Institute has chosen this field fro its activity. “Not only are physical conditions suited to it, but an ever-increasing market is furnish ed in the rapidly growing population centers nearly. No other farm 'effort will pay him so well as efficient dairying with poultry raising as a companion enterprise. The Institute will keep the farmer informed on ways to increase his cow and hen ef ficiency through research and inter pretation of the great Wark of the various agricultural ’.colleges’ It will do this in several ways. For one thing, a careful survey will be made of representative localities through the North to give the Insti tute a working knowledge of farm conditions today and what problems most relentlessly confront thWarmer’ An experimental farm will be oper ated under average farm conditions and the results of this will h*e made known. New methods of reeding and caring for coprs and chickens.’toi-in-" cresaing milk and egg production will be closely watched and tried out be-' fore recommendation. A bureau of Jn quiry will be established, giving per sonal service on any questions sent in. In creating the Institute and pro viding largely for its maintenance, Mr. Lar re we is.giving -substance to what has long been a dream of his.
