Mrs. Baldwin was born in Winder, the daughter of the late James Otis McNeal and Nettie Baird McNeal. Mrs. Baldwin was a grad uate of Tift College and served as the director of the Jack- son County Family and Children’s Services for 25 years. Mrs. Baldwin was a member of the Galilee Christian Church, the Jeffer son Pilot Club, and the T-Bird Club. Mrs. Baldwin was pre ceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Fred Robert Bald win Sr.; brothers, Harold and Donald McNeal; and a sister, Lillian Bennett. Survivors include her son, Bob Baldwin, Jefferson; daughters, Kay Buckelew, Commerce, and Lisa Duke and her husband Tim, Augusta; grandchildren, Dustin Martin and his wife Arin, Lee Bald win, Tyler Duke, and Payton Duke; great-grandchildren, Jaiden Smith, Josiah Smith, Baily Baldwin, and Noah Baldwin; and all her special friends that have shared happy and memorable times over the years. Barrett, 89, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016. He was a member of St. Anthony's Episcopal Church. Joe served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the Euro pean Theater, serving in France and Germany. He was a member of The 76th Signal Corps serving under General George S. Patton’s “Big Red One’’ and was in many battles including The Battle of The Bulge and The Liberation of Buchenwald Concentration Camp. He was a proud WWII Veteran and made many mon etary contributions to make the WWII Memorial a reality for many brothers in arms. Joe was also a proud member of The American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul T. and Weebie Jones Barrett; his loving wife of 68 years, Freddie Lemon Barrett; and a brother, Paul Jones Barrett. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janie Fendley Daniel, and her husband, Watson. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Peggy Joyce Fendley; two children, Karen Gordon and her husband, Eddie Gordon, and Marvin Fendley and his wife, Marolyn Fendley; two sisters, Alice Martin and her husband, the late Arnold Martin, and Joyce Motes and her husband, Ernest Motes; four grandchildren, Lisa Fendley, Amanda Fend ley, Sara Fendley, and Zachary Gordon; and one great-grand child, Marissa Moon. She was surrounded by family and loved ones. Bendine grew up on her family farm in Commerce, and attended Ila High School. Fol lowing graduation, she moved to Athens to attend Athens Business School. She worked for the City of Athens for 40 years, first as a secretary, then as administrative assistant to the Athens Mayor, and finally, as manager of the purchasing department. Bendine was an active member of First Christian Church of Athens for over 60 years. She loved her church and congregation dearly, even writing several poems convey ing the history of the church. During her failing health, she continued to regularly attend Sunday services. Bendine was an avid golfer, winning many golfing tourna ments at Athens Country Club, where she was a member. She played several rounds of golf each week into her 80s and recorded 2 holes-in-one dur ing her golfing career. Always ready for a new adventure, Bendine began painting in her 70"s, and quickly became a gifted art ist. She completed many oil and water color paintings, capturing scenes of wildlife, nature and the countryside. Her paintings were exhibited and auctioned at many differ ent events. Bendine had a gift for mak ing everyone feel special. This unique ability resulted in family and friends alike considering themselves Ben- dine's “favorite.” She greet ed you with an endearing “hello, hello, hello” and often answered someone’s “I love you” with “I love you more!” Mrs. Hoechst was preceded in death by her first husband, J.D. Parham, in 1986, and by her second husband, Harvey Hoechst, in 2012. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Geraldine Hix Minish, and father, Bennett Tillman Minish, brother, Dr. Benjamin T. Minish, stepson, Douglas Hoechst, nephew, Kim Min ish, and great nephew, Justin Fitzpatrick. She was born December 24, 1919, in Banks County, Ga., the daughter of the late George D. Massey and Iona Peyton Massey. Mae was the oldest living member of Temple Baptist Church in Gastonia. She retired from Firestone Mills after 35 years of service. She was the con necting factor involving the real estate and development of the revitalization of the Loray Mills. McKinley Sr. COMMERCE J. W. McKinley, Sr., formerly of White Plains, Ga., died Sun day, January 17, 2016, at Hill Haven Nursing Home, at the age of 95. Mr. McKinley was a great father, good friend to have, and a very good man. He was an avid gardener in his retired years, still gardening at age 94. Born in White Plains on June 25, 1920, he was the son of the late Edgar Lawson and Minnie McKinley. He was preceded in death by his son, J. W. McKin ley, Jr.; granddaughter. Brandy McKinley; and eight siblings, Aretta McKinley, Earl McKin ley, Walter McKinley, Edgar McKinley, Richard McKinley, Joe McKinley, Lewis McKin ley, and Lena McKinley. Mr. McKinley was well known in Greene County. He ran an auto/truck repair busi ness for many years and also repaired farm equipment for the local farmers. He was well known in Greene County and surrounding counties as “Shop Man”. He loved mechanic work and continued to work on small engines, etc. after he closed his business. He also ran a chicken farm for many years.
