Officers of the Commerce Police Department made just
two arrests over the past week, one for driving with a sus
pended license and the other a pickup from the Gwinnett
County Jail on an outstanding warrant.
An officer arrested Sharif Anwar Alexis, 32,5515 Concord
Circle, Gainesville, for driving with a suspended driver’s
license.
The officer was on patrol on Interstate 85 when his auto
tag reader indicated an alert for an expired registration.
Upon stopping Alexis, the driver said he had just moved to
Georgia from Alabama and was awaiting the conclusion of
a court case there to fix the tag. However, when the officer
ran Alexis’ information through dispatch, his license in
Georgia returned suspended as of Dec. 19, 2014. Dispatch
did not advise of the reason for the suspension.
Also last week, the police picked up Donald F. Cumber-
batch, 46, 799 Cooper Street SW, Atlanta, from the Gwinnett
County Jail, where he was being held on an unspecified
Commerce warrant. The officer transported him to the
Jackson County Jail.
BB gun leads to
EJ school lockdown
East Jackson schools were placed on “lockdown”
on Feb. 24 after reports that a student had a gun on
campus.
A student at East Jackson Comprehensive High
School had brought a BB gun to school.
The school resource officer first received a call
from a school employee who said two students were
overheard talking about a gun. The two male students
having the conversation were brought to the office and
one was found to be in possession of a BB gun. He
said that he brought it to school to return it to another
student.
The 14-year-old male was charged with carrying a
weapon without a permit, carrying a a weapon within
a school zone, disruption of a public school and car
rying a weapon in an unauthorized location.

Conflicting stories
given in shooting of dog
A man reported to the
Banks County Sheriff’s Office
last week that he shot a
neighbor’s dog after it came
onto his property.
The man reported that the
dog tried to get to his dogs
behind an enclosed fence.
The man said he tried to run
the dog off but “it came at
him in an aggressive man
ner.” The man said he then
shot and killed the dog.
The neighbor told a dep
uty that she believes the
neighbor called the dog onto
his property. She added that
they have had “issues” in the
past..

PUBLIC NOTICE
Banks County has submitted an application for the purchase and installation of four fixed
generators funded by FEMA under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. The project will affect
historic and non historic properties that are located in the floodplain. The project will be in the
following areas: 145 Industrial Park Drive and 300 Outlet Drive
Presidential Executive Orders 11988 and 11990 and the National Historic Preservation Act
required that all federal actions in or affecting the floodplain or wetlands and historic
properties be reviewed for opportunities to relocate, and evaluated for social, economic,
historical, environmental, legal and safety considerations. The public is invited to participate in
the process of identifying alternatives and analyzing their impacts. Any adverse effects to
historic properties as a result of this undertaking will be mitigated.

Road.
All work shall be completed in accordance with Plans, Special Provisions, and the latest edition of
the Georgia Department of Transportation Standard Specifications, applicable Supplemental
Specifications, and the latest edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
