Tigers ... Cont. from IB quarter. Chancey credited the coaches with all three phases finding the end zone. “There’s not one thing they take lightly whether it is special teams, whether it be punt, kickoff, all of the phases matter,” Chancey said. “They can win a ball game or lose a ball game for you.” The Tigers’ next possession lasted just three plays and ended when Sorrow con nected with Matthew Flint on a 65-yard touchdown reception. The Tigers led 28-0 after the first quarter. The next possession was even quicker as Sorrow took the first snap on the drive 60 yards for a touchdown to extend the Tigers’ lead to 35-0. Chancey topped Sorrow’s 60-yard dash to the end zone with a 67-yard run of his own to the house to give the Tigers a com manding 42-0 lead with 7:35 left in the first half. Hebron Christian broke through near the end of the half, cashing in on a Tigers’ fumble to cut the deficit to 42-6 at halftime. They added another score to start the third quarter but gave a touchdown back on the following possession as Allen threw his second pick-six of the game. Brock took the interception 48 yards for the score and the Tigers’ lead grew to 49-13. Hebron Christian added a safety late in the game to set the final score at 49-15. The Tigers’ defense held Hebron Chris tian to 235 yards of offense, with two inter ceptions and caused two fumbles, recover ing one. Commerce head coach Michael Brown said he was “pleased” with overall effort of his team, even with losing two fumbles offensively. “We’ll learn some lessons from this and take a look at the film and see how they exploited us a little bit and go from there,” he said. “We want to execute all three phases of the game. “Special teams have been a big part of our success the last two years and we want to keep improving on what we’re doing.” He said Ware made a “good play” on the ball on the punt return touchdown, but they will go back to work to “get Commerce better.” Lakeview Academy preview The Tigers travel to Gainesville this Friday to take on region-foe Lakeview Academy. It is the Tigers’ first road game of the season. This will be the fifth meeting between the two teams, with Commerce holding a 4-0 record over the Lions. Last year’s game was a 35-point victory for the Tigers, 38-3. The Tigers have outscored the Lions a combined 181-38 in the four meetings. “They are a very well-coached football team,” Brown said about Lakeview. “Coach (Matthew) Gruhn does a great job up there with those guys. “They will be well-coached and they will be ready to play.” Lakeview Academy has had one winning season in program history (2012). The Lions were 2-8 in 2015 and lost the season opener at East Jackson, 38-6. The Lions bring a young squad to the field, led by Joecarl Gradidge (lineback er), Carter Ambrose (fullback), Jerrod Abee (wide receiver), Carter Reeves (tight end, defensive lineman), Will Perry (wide receiver, defensive back) and Bryce Byrd (running back, defensive back).
