The East Jackson Comprehensive High School Marching Band recently competed and received several recognitions.
EJCHS marching band earns 'superior' ratings
The East Jackson Comprehensive High School March
ing Band recently competed and received “superior”
ratings for its color guard, drum major, dance line and
overall band.
The East Jackson Marching Band received first place in
Class 3A and beat every band in Class 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A,
finishing fourth overall in the entire competition, ahead of
12 bands.
The color guard placed third in the entire competition.
These are officially the highest scores and rankings ever
given to the “Pride of the East Side. “
To Host Competition Saturday
The East Jackson Marching Band will host the 8th annual
Georgia Contest of Champions Marching Competition on
the campus of EJCHS this Saturday, Oct. 8.
The Georgia Music Educators state-sponsored event will
feature 13 bands from Georgia and South Carolina. There
will be 1,400 student musicians in the event.
The event will also include an exhibition performance by
the East Jackson Marching Band.
The event will be judged by professors and directors in
the state.
Entry to the event, which is open to the public, is $10, and
the event starts at 12:30 p.m.
Elected mayor of his class
The students in Beverly Mansfield’s second
grade class at Commerce Primary School just
finished their government unit in Social Studies.
All of the students wrote speeches about why they
would be good mayors of the class, after which
Jude Forrester was elected mayor of the class.
Tops in state
Laura Boswell, Georgia’s Association of Career
& Technical Education Teacher of the Year for
2015, represented the state last week at the Region
II ACTE meeting after undergoing extensive inter
views and providing documentation of her educa
tional achievements. Region II includes Georgia,
Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina,
Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Puerto Rico and
the Virgin Islands. Boswell serves as the Jackson
County School System Work-Based Learning
Coordinator, working the programs offered at East
Jackson and Jackson County comprehensive high
schools.
Banks Co. 4-H fruit sale under way
The Banks County 4-H is selling fruit through Nov. 8 as the
annual 4-H fundraiser.
Navel and juice oranges, red grapefruit, tangelos, tanger
ines, and Mandarin Oranges can be purchased in 1040
pound boxes. Also offered will be Fuji, Granny Smith, and
Pink Lady apples from Mercier’s Orchards in 5-pound bags.
A citrus trio (27 pounds of assorted navel oranges, tangelos,
and grapefmits) or the mixed bag, which includes two of
everything, will also be offered.
All proceeds benefit the Banks County 4-H and will be
used exclusively for youth programming.

WALKING CLUB
Tired of walking alone? Join Robert Fowler, walking club
coordinator, for five minutes of instruction to help you get
more out of your walk and then enjoy the company of other
walkers as you complete up to three 1-mile loops (all three
together is equivalent to a 5K) on the NGMC Braselton
campus. Walkers may choose how many laps to make,
and may build up stamina as classes progress. This is a
great way to build up endurance and train for one of the
area's many 5K walks!

If you're looking for ways to reduce stress and enjoy
