Mary Lou Barnett
NICHOLSON - Mary Lou Bar
nett, 85, died Friday, November 4,
2016, at her residence.
Mrs. Barnett was born in Nichol
son, the daughter of the late Leon
ard and Myrtle Pace Sanders. She
was a member of Antioch United
Methodist Church and was a home
maker. Mrs. Barnett was preceded
in death by her husband, Jessie
“Sport” Barnett; and sons, Terry
Barnett and Thad Barnett.
Survivors include sons, Tony
Barnett, Commerce, and Trey Bar
nett and Todd Barnett, both of Nich
olson; brothers, Charles Sanders,
Pendergrass, and Doug Sanders,
Bremerton, Wash.; seven grandchil
dren; six great-grandchildren; and
one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Mon
day, November 7, at Antioch United
Methodist Church with Dr. David
Bowen and Rev. Marshall Bruner
officiating. Interment was in the
church cemetery.

Martha Sue
Breedlove
WINDER - Martha Sue (Harris)
Breedlove, 87, passed away Tues
day morning, November 1, 2016,
following a brief illness.
She was the beloved wife of
George Breedlove, who survives
her. She was born in Winder on
July 15, 1929, the youngest child
of the late Robert and Claudia Har
ris. She was preceded in death by
her brothers Dana, Hugh, Robert,
and Claude, and by her sister, Julia
Harris Isaac.
In addition to her husband, sur
vivors include her sister-in-law,
Claude Harris, Winder; brother-in-
law Bob Isaac, Douglas, Alaska;
brother-in-law. Tribble Breedlove
and his wife Robinette, Monroe;
and brother-in-law John Breedlove,
High Shoals. She was a much loved
aunt of her nieces and nephews, and
leaves many cousins and friends.
She will be remembered and missed
by all who knew her.
A memorial service was held
Saturday, November 5, at the First
Christian Church in Winder with
the Revs. Cheryl Cloar and Tom
Van Laningham officiating.

DANIELSVILLE - Betty F.
Carey, 88, went to be with the Lord
on Friday morning, November 4,
2016, at her residence.
Mrs. Carey was born in Madison
County, the daughter of the late
Lee and Ruth Fortson. She moved
with her husband Alton to Athens
and raised her daughters there. She
attended Southern Business Col
lege in Atlanta. Upon her retirement
from the University of Georgia’s
College of Education, they moved
back to Madison County. Mrs.
Carey was a lifelong member of
Shiloh Baptist Church. She loved
cooking, reading, and gathering
with her family and friends. She
was preceded in death by her hus
band, T. Alton Carey; and brother,
Dwight Fortson.
Survivors include daughters,
Deborah C. (Russell) McCants and
Denise C. (Doug) Thomas, both
of Danielsville; brother, Pat (Mary
Ann) Fortson, Crawford; sisters,
Jackie F. (Royce) Brown, Com
merce, and LeNelle (Tommy) Chas
tain, Anderson, S.C.; grandchildren,
Jordon Thomas, Ryan C. Thomas
and Sarah Kate Thomas; nieces and
nephews, whom she loved dearly;
along with many close friends,
especially Terri Sexton Franks and
Terrie Wages Seagraves, whom she
loved as daughters.
Funeral services were held at
Shiloh Baptist Church on Sunday,
November 6, with the Revs. Glenn
Guest and Dayton Logan officiat
ing. Interment was in the church
cemetery.

Cass, 42, died Wednesday, Novem
ber 2, 2016, at Northeast Georgia
Medical Center.
Mrs. Cass was born in Stone
Mountain, Ga. She was an artist, a
“pirate,” and a rescuer of both peo
ple and animals. She gave life and
beauty to everything around her.
She was of the spiritualist faith.
Survivors include her husband,
Terry Cass, Jr., Maysville; parents,
Ronald W. and Mary Anne Harris
Allison, Maysville; and her dog,
Spencer, and all her animals.

Elizabeth Collins, 73, died Friday,
November 4, 2016, at Gentiva Hos
pice in Athens Regional Medical
Center.
Mrs. Collins was born in
Maysville, the daughter of the late
W.C. and Bernice Stewart Dun
can. She was a member of Liberty
Church and was a homemaker. Mrs.
Collins was preceded in death by
her husband, Junior Collins.
Survivors include her brother,
Jimmy Duncan, Danielsville; sis-
ters-in-law, Thelma Lynn and Clara
Minish, both of Commerce; broth
er-in-law, Trey Collins, Carnesville;
special cousin, Ruby Hutcherson;

Lord on Thursday, November 3,

Born in Banks County on August
13, 1944, he was the son of the
late Joe Dennis and Florean Meeks
Davidson. Mr. Davidson proudly
served his country in the United
States Army during the Vietnam
War. He worked with Mount Ver

businesses.

spending time with his family,

‘Bill’Davis
DANIELSVILLE - William
Ardell “Bill” Davis, 80, passed
away in his sleep at his residence
on Monday, November 7, 2016, fol
lowing a long battle of heart disease
and cancer.
He was born May 28, 1936, the
son of the late Horace and Annie
Mae Davis at Watson Mill. Ardell
was extremely proud of his family.
He was preceded in death by his
brother, John Davis.
Survivors include his wife Mar
tha Nash Davis, along with six
children. Daughters, Dale Davis,
Savannah, Marie Davis, Vanna,
Sonja Turner (Rick), Salisbury,
N.C., and Lisa Johnson, Ila; sons,
Scott Morrison, Ila, and Art Davis
(Edie), Danielsville; nine grand
children, Amanda, Catherine, Hold
en, Holly, Haley, Jessica, Chris
tian, Taylor and Emma; five great
grandchildren, Russ, Riley, Corbin,
Gracie and Iman; and two sisters,
Doris Crowe and Mary Jackson,
Danielsville.
It would be hard to summarize
all of the things that Ardell did in
his lifetime. He proudly served as a
young man in the United States Air
Force during the
Korean Con
flict and was a
long standing
member of the
Masons, where he held a 32nd
degree. He supported his fam
ily working at General Times in
Athens, where he retired and then
afterwards farmed with his father.
Ardell loved to spend time deer
hunting with his sons and friends.
He especially enjoyed his Thurs
day evenings at Greg Fitzpatrick’s
“Road Kill Cafe”, where he and his
friends would cook and spend time
together. We know he would like to
thank Greg Fitzpatrick, Frank Tyner
and other friends too numerous to
list, that stopped by and checked
on him. He valued each of you and
you were very much appreciated
and loved by him.
Ardell requested that everyone
celebrate his life rather than mourn.
He is in a healed body today spend
ing time with his brother, John,
hunting and running in the fields
like they did as boys, and sitting
down to dinner with his daddy and
mama.
To all his hunting friends, he
wants you to know he has the
perfect deer stand and spot to hunt,
asks that you think of him this
season, and that he will be there
to salute you as you bring the big
one home.
The family would like to thank
Dr. Harvey Ouzts and Staff at
Oconee Heart and Vascular for their
exceptional care and devotion to
Ardell, along with Saint Mary’s
Hospice.
A time of gathering for friends
and family was held on Tuesday,
November 8, at Lord and Stephens
Funeral Home in Danielsville.

Ramsey
QUANAH, TEXAS - Scott R.
“Tiger” Ramsey, 66, formerly from
Riverdale, Ga. and Phoenix, Ariz.,
passed away suddenly on Friday,
October 28,
2016.
He was born
November 17,
1949, during
Typhoon Allen,
while his father
who was in the
Air Force was
stationed on
Guam. Ramsey
was a United
States Army
veteran, Vietnam veteran, and life
time VFW member. He was of
the Baptist denomination. He was
preceded in death by his parents,
Oliver M. Ramsey and Louise A.M.
Ramsey; grandparents, Ernest and
Kathryn Bruegger and Ada Mae
Ramsey; sisters, Chestene and
Kathy Ramsey; beloved uncle,
Homer Bruegger; pal (dog) Sheba;
and many aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his wife of 33
years, Joyce Ramsey, Texas; sons,
Scott Ramsey Jr. and Jason Ramsey,
both of Arizona, and Owen Sim
mons and his wife Stephanie, Geor
gia; daughters, Toni and her hus
band Eric, Alabama, and Brenda
Morgan, Georgia; brothers, Ron
nie, Hawaii, Michael, Arizona, and

He gave so much of himself to
others. He was a loving husband,
father, grandfather, uncle, broth
er and friend. He will be greatly
missed by all who loved him, espe
cially his nephew John. Scott was
his mentor and friend as well as
an uncle.
He lived his life with honor. He
loved God, his country and family.
He requested to be cremated and
have his ashes brought back to
Georgia. “He wanted no funeral or
tears,” family members said. “Just
to celebrate life and give to your
favorite Veterans charity.”
The family will have a celebra
tion of life at a later date.
“God bless you all,” family
members said. “See you in the sun
sets.”

ROYSTON - Shirley Annette
Jones Spierto, 70, a resident of
Brown Rehabilitation in Royston,
died Wednesday, November 2,
2016.
Born in Danielsville, she was
the daughter of the late Joe Brown
Jones and Gertrude Gordon Jones.
Mrs. Spierto lived in the Atlanta
area most of her life, where she
worked for the CDC. She attended
the First Baptist Church of Atlanta
and was a member of Danielsville
Baptist Church. She was a Bible
Scholar, accomplished artist and
she received a scholarship to Bre-
nau University. Mrs. Spierto was
preceded in death by her brother,
Roger Jones; brother-in-law, Don
ald Turner; sister-in-law, Janie
Jones; and nephew, Greg Turner.
Survivors include her siblings,
Donald Jones, Brannon O’Neal
Jones (Mildred), Alice Jones Turn
er Phillips (Bill) and Doug Jones
(Dianne); and numerous nieces and
nephews.

Thomas Stovall Sr.
Thomas Nelson Stovall Sr., 89,
lifelong resident of Madison Coun
ty, passed away Tuesday, November
2, 2016.
Born at Stovall’s Crossing, he
was the son of the late George Nel
son Stovall and Fannie Stevenson
Stovall. Mr. Stovall was an active
member of Trinity Baptist Church,
where he served as a deacon. He
was a 1950 graduate of North Geor
gia College, and served in the Navy
during World War II. Mr. Stovall
was the first Madison County Farm
Bureau Agent,
he served on the
Board of Direc
tors for Jack-
son EMC and
served as a State Legislature Rep
resentative. He was a dairy farmer
and a very active member of his
community. Most importantly, he
was a loving son, brother, father
and grandfather. He was preceded
in death by his wife of 55 years,
Mary Garland Williams Stovall;
and one sister, Elizabeth “Lib”
Chandler.
Survivors include his children,
Tom Stovall (Debbie), Alice Stovall
(Monica), Mark Stovall (Moira),
Jon Stovall (Heidi) and Cindy
South (David); sisters, Alberta
“Bert” Wofford and Ann Epps;

dred Brooks Strickland, 94, left this
earth on Monday, October 31,2016,
to be with her Lord.
She was born February 4, 1922,
in Madison County, the daughter
of the late \~
than Sartain; sons-in-law, Charles
Adams and Kenneth Ginn; brother
and sister-in-law, Guy and Mary
Books; sister and brother-in-law,
Evelyn and Ed Daniel; and former
brother-in-law, Allen Gurley.
Survivors include two daughters,
Jean Ginn and Betty (Max) Sartain,
Danielsville; grandchildren, Greg
(Karen) Sartain, Danielsville, Chris
Sartain, Athens, and Brian (Bojana)
Ginn, Decatur; great-grandchildren,
Aaron and Adam Sartain, Alexis
Sartain and Vuk Ginn; sisters-in-
law, Mary Williamson, Anne Jack-
son and Dorothy Strickland; many
loving nieces, nephews, and cous
ins; and special friends, Tom and
Reba Daniel.
Mrs. Strickland was the oldest
member of Union Baptist Church,
where she served as Sunday School
Beginner Class teacher for over 45
years and planted seeds to be har
vested in God’s Kingdom through
her participation in every phase of
the church activities. She said her
greatest accomplishment was lead
ing young people to Christ.
She was active in the community
and wrote a column for The Dan
ielsville Monitor for many years.
She was a voracious reader, and at
93 was still reading her Bible, nov
els, newspapers and doing search
word books. Her motto for her
longevity was to keep active and
not worry about anything out of
your control.
A proud survivor of thyroid can
cer, she attended and supported
Madison County Relay for Life
and served one year as Honorary
Marshal.
Married to Paul for 62 years, she
worked along-side of him with their
farm, living a simple and happy life
as evidenced by her forever smile.
Services were held November
3 at Union Baptist Church with
the Rev. Robert Whitehead and Dr.
Billy Owensby officiating. Inter
ment was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Andy Gurley, Don
Brooks, John Cass, Allen Bishop,
Tim Jackson, James Strickland,
Frank Strickland and Don Chan
dler.

She was loved and cared for for
several years by Brenda Moseley
at home and then by the Staff at
Brown Health and Rehab (too many
to name, but who will remain in our
hearts forever) and Affinis Hospice.

Waddell, 72, passed away Saturday,
November 5, 2016.
Kaye loved to crochet, paint and
cook, and she loved animals, espe
cially her dog Toby. Kaye was
a member of Ebenezer Methodist
Church in Jefferson.
Survivors include her husband of
53 years, Jerry Waddell, Hoschton;
son, Lee Waddell, Hoschton; daugh

Mrs. Weldon was born in Homer,

Mittie Lee Smith Brock. Mrs.
Weldon was a member of Mt. Olive
Baptist Church and was retired
from BJC Nursing Home. Mrs.
Weldon was preceded in death by
