Local Happenings.
Mr. L. C. Smith, of White
Creek, was in town Sunday, and
while here bought a horse from the
Indians in camped near town, over
which he and them entered into
dispute. The. Indians wanted
sheriff Trotter to arrest Mr. Smith
but Mr. Trotter refused to do so.
telling them that it was a matter
between them and Mr. Smith. The
Indians threathened Mr. Smith
with a warrant but they decided to
drop the matter.
The thermometer in Cleveland
registered io at our office Monday
morning before the rising of the
eun. This is decidedly the coldest
day of the winter, and probably it
has not registered so low in several
years.
While in our office a few days
ago Mr. Trotter informs that never
before has he had such strong solic¬
itation to run for sheriff. llis
all parts county
have appealed to him to make
race and he says he cannot now
disobey their calling when he
been so faithfully served by them
in the past. Get ready, boys, for
the fight will be interesting indeed,
for Mr. Trotter has a strong
ing as well as his opponent, Mr.
A. L. Dorsey.
The postoffice department has
now under consideration the advis¬
ability of. curtailing that part of the
Cornelia star route running between
Cleveland and Leaf. If anyone
objects now would be a good time
to be let it known, as this change
is likely to be made.
Col. G. S. Kytle atteded court at
Clarkesviile this week.
Mr. Epp Russell, of Helen, was
here first of the week on a visit to
homefolks. Mr. Russell has pur¬
chased the Barber shop at Helen
and will run it this summer.
Mrs, Frank Kenimer has been in
a serious condition for some day
with a trouble of the throat for the
past week.
Mr. M. B. Cox has moved from
his house near the school building
to his house on the public square.
Col. J. W. H. Underwood spent
a few days at Clarkesviile court
this week attending to legal busi¬
ness.
Rev. Peek, of North Carolina,
spent a few days here last week
visiting his son, Truman, and
friends. He returned with his
daughter, who has been in school
here, first of the week.
Sheriff Trotter and Col. C. H.
Edwards went to Clarkesviile
Thursday on business.
Ordinary Brown is having some
locust posts laid down around the
court house this week preparatory
to building a fence around it.

Mr- Marlin Palrnour of Cleve¬
land spent a day in the city the
latter part of last week. He went
from here to Cornelia where he
spent a few days before returning
home
Mrs. Geo. S. Kytle of Cleveland
spent Saturday in the city visiting
relativos. Mrs. Kytle is a sister of
Assistant Postmaster A. H. Bell
and congressman Thomas M. Bell.
Col. J. W. H. Underwood of
Cleveland was a professional vis¬
itor to the city recently. Col.
Underwood is one of that sections
leading lawyers, and has many
friends here who are always glad
to see him.

Union Grove News.
We are pretty sure from what we
are able to gather that Mr. W. H
Bell will be in the race for Clerk
of the Court. The people of White
county all know Mr. Bell, and that
he stands one of the county’s best
citizens. He received our taxes for
two terms and his books show for
themselves. If he is in the race we
stand shoulder to shoulder for Mr.
Bell.
We are looking foward to the
time when we will see the annonce
ment of Mr. Thos. Underwood to
represent White county. Will he
be a candidate in the coining prim¬
ary f
1 have known Mr. Underwood
personally for the past six years,
and I have found him to be a splen¬
did young man, true to his word,
true to his church, his neighbors,
bis parents, and would make a true
representative of bis county. If
lie sees proper to enter the race in
the next primary we will do all we
can to assist rull up a big majority.

for a short time Sunday, They
are highly esteemed ladies and are
loved and respected by all with
whom they come in contact.
