THE HORSE'S PRAYER.
Dear Master, the Lord has seen
fit to make us horses dumb. We
can not talk; we cannot ask for
what we need, or tel! you-when or
where we hurt; we cannot tell you
when we are sick, or when we are
hungry. I pray thee dear master
to be kind tome; don’t drive me
too hard and then tie me in a cold
place without a blanket, or get me
too hot, or tie me in the hot su«
for a long time, I will be very
humble and do all I can to please
you if you won’t let the collar hurt
me or the saddle skin my back.
Don’t check my head loo high—
I can’t pull as good; the hot sun
bakes my eyes and I can’t fight off
the biting flies. I don’t have any
hands to get them off with.
Dear Master, please look at my
teeth and if they have sharp cor¬
ners and are making my mouth
and tongue sore file them off so I
can eat.
Keep my feet trimmed and shod
when I need it, I can travel and
pull your loads. Please, dear mas¬
ter, don’t whip me when I am do¬
ing all I can. I work for you with¬
out pay and never grumble some¬
times way in the night; so, dear
master, give me plenty of good
clean water often, and feed me
good, hate to be poor and look bad.
Dear Master, I can’t talk to you
but we horses have a language of
our own. We can talk to each
other. We tell each other our
troubles. We need something be¬
side corn and hay or fodder to keep
healthy. Our kidneys get
wrong, we get too hot, we get
wormy. We crave something not
in corn or hay and we often eat
dirt or manure trying to find what
we need. We are shut up and can
get only what you give us. Our
hair gets long and ugly and you
trade us off to some poor devil to
die.
Dear Master, I have been talking
with my brother horses aed they
tell me a kind borsemaster, who
has owned lots of horses and have
selling lot* of horses for a long
time, he has been studying our
nature and has found out what we
need. He has prepared a lot of
things which is mixed up with a
lot of salt and makes a bard block
of it called:
EDGERTON’S MEDICATED
SALT BRICK.
It contains everything we need.
You know when you
drove me over to see Bill Jones you
put me in the horse stable and there
was one of those Salt Brick in it.
I could hardly eat my dinner for
licking this Edgerton's Salt Brick,
and I do feel so much better ever
since. My cough has stopped. I
am beginning to shed off the ugly
coat of hail. I don’t want to eat
dirt or manure. I drink more
water—my kidneys act better. I
have stopped scouring so bad, and
the nasty worms have been coming
from me ever since.
Dear Master, I do believe if you
would keep one in my trough I
would get young again. You for¬
get to give me the powders and it
so good any way. We tick the
brick and when we get enough we
stop. We know how to doctor
ourselves if we could get the stuff
Everybody nearly, selts Edger
ton’s Salt Brick. They don’t cost
much—a dollar’s worth will last
me six months. Don't trade me
off to die. I can do lots of good
hard work for you yet, if yo* will
keep Edgerton’s Salt Brick in my
trough and you will receive a just
reward hereafter for taking care of
your old slave, who has done so
much for you. AMEN.

Corn and Cotton Fertilizers
The more valuable the crop, the more exacting the f armer should
be as to the class of fertilizer he uses. An inferior fertilizer may
jeopardize his entire crop since the materials used in such a fertilizer
may either leach out before the crop can utilize it or fail to become
available in time for the needs of the crop. Many a farmer has lost
a valuable crop from this cause, while others have suffered stagger¬
ing losses from shedding and premature development.
Our GOLD BOND BRANDS offer absolute protection and
security against such losses, and insure quick, steady growth,
well fruited stalks and an early, healthy maturity. As corn fer¬
tilizers, they are without an equal, and they are made to hurry
the cotton crop to early maturity to beat the boll-weevil. We
