Why Bond Election Is Called.
To the public and voters of
White County :
The board of roads and revenues
have been called on so much for
better roads that we have decided
to have an election on bonds for
the purpose of making some goods
roads. We want to see good road
as bad as anyone can, but we have
got to have some help. We can’t
make good roads unless we have
the money, so we are putting it up
to the voters to say whether or not
we have them. It is going to be
eft entirely with you. If a majority
of you prove by your actions on
the 25 th day of April that you
want good roads, we will surely
have them. We have a chance at
some federal, money. The govern¬
ment proposes to put up one dollar
for every one we put up for the
purpose of building good roads,
and I think if we ever aim to get
busy, now is the time, for we cer¬
tainly can’t do much witli what
money we have. We are going to
give you a chance to vote a hun¬
dred thousand dollar bond issue to
be paid in forty years.
This may look to be a great big
sum, but you can’t hardly tell the
difference in your taxes if the
bonds carry. It will not be any¬
thing to compare with levying a
direct tax, which will have to be
done sooner or later, and that will
mean something to the tax payers.
We think it just and right to give
the people a chance
to show their
f
hand in the county’s affairs, and if
bonds carry we expect to do the
very best we can for ever voter in
the county. We have talked with a
great many of the voters; nearly
very one says they are glad to get
the chance to vote for bonds, and
will do everything they can for
bonds. We hope the bonds will
carry as the people are expecting
us to make good roads. It is very
embarrassing to us for the people
to be calling on us for good roads
when we haven’t the money to,
spend on them, and it takes that
to make good roads.
Some people aie wanting us to
work convicts, which is impossible
with the money we have. If we
had the money we might think
about something like that, but cer¬
tainly cannot with the present
amount of funds. So, Mr. Voter,
think very serious about your own
welfare and act accordingly.
Yours for bonds and good roads.
